MN Judicial race: 4th District Court, Judge 53

On my ballot, it's the only race without an incumbent. Jane Ranum (a former DFL state senator and Hennepin Cty Atty) and David L. Piper (a family justice lawyer / family court referee) are running for this position and IMO it's a can't-lose for Democrats who value true justice. Both seem perfectly qualified and have the kind of background I'd like to see in a judge.

In fact, I really don't know who I'm going to vote for. Anyone here have personal experience with one of the candidates?

A shame one of them couldn't have ran for for the Supreme Court #4 position and given us a choice other than one between a right-wing Pawlenty appointee and Bachmann-esque fundie homophobe.
