Just so everyone's clear: The official MN DU election night gathering is at
O'Gara's in St. Paul at 7:30PM!

Be there, aloha.

1. There you go using those phrases from exotic, elitist places
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 03:56 PM by dflprincess
(or from tv shows that the young ones may not recognize)

a Minnesotan would have said, "you wanna come with?"

2. I wasn't in on the planning, so this is a little late, but why pick a Republican-friendly bar?
Coleman holds plenty o' fundraisers there.

Oh, well, we'll be the diversity.

4. He probably just does it to further confuse people about
his non-existent relationship to Mayor Coleman's family. Normie once had a fundraiser on St. Patrick's Day (I don't think it was at O'Gara's) because that's the kind of weasel he is.

6. On the other hand....
Coleman had a rally at O'Gara's today - and he had Rudy Guiliani with him :puke:

My mother - the woman who raised me to believer IrishCatholicDemocrat was one word - called me sputtering and wanting to know what was wrong with O'Gara's that they would even let Norman through the door for lunch.

7. Ewww. Cooties.
Maybe we could meet there and then move elsewhere if there's too much of a Republican vibe.

it is anything but "repuglicon friendly"

maybe they just like business.

23. I believe he had his rally with Mayor McCreepy there just last night
Though, in fairness, they have hosted DFL-friendly event there from time to time.

I think the owner is friends with Norm from back in his mayoral days.

16. I wouldn't patronize O'Gara's if it was the last bar open tonight
I thought this was DEMOCRATIC Underground!!! You're going to reward these HUGE longtime Republican supporters with your business a day after they host a rally for Norm Coleman and Michele Bachmann, featuring Rudy Giuliani? Not on your life. Just so everyone's clear--this is a really dumb idea. Please go somewhere else with your hard-earned DEMOCRATIC dollars and celebrate a DEMOCRATIC victory with people who deserve your business!

17. Any suggestions?

I don't know which places are DFL and which places are Repub, and I guess Jason didn't either.

However, I rather like the idea of going into "enemy" territory and possibly annoying them.

Sorry you won't be with us, but as Jason has said, they've hosted Obama events, too.

Maybe they just like money. I know a caterer who is definitely a Democrat but who couldn't pass up the money-making opportunity (it's been a tough year otherwise) offered by the Republican convention. She was busy every day, and it's allowing her to stay in business with a comfortable cushion.

18. One of the guys I work with went to school with the O'Gara who is running the place now
and knows a bit of the family history. He figures this O'Gara one may be a Republican, not sure about his dad (who is deceased), but grandpa O'Gara was a DFLer and his spirit will welcome us - maybe he'll be hoping we put the younger one back on the right (left) track.

I'll see you guys tonight. :hi:

we have it set up for there and there might be some DUers that can't get back here today to check on any location changes.

What say the rest of you?

I can't help recalling the time when a former poster threw a tantrum because we weren't meeting at a union restaurant, and then when we later met at two different ones, she never showed up.

DEMOCRATIC Underground holding an election night party at a venue that's one of St. Paul's most well-known GOP supporters. That's fucking embarrassing. Do you keep your money at TCF too?

28. We are a group of friends getting together at a location that's
convenient for all us. We are not doing this as an arm of the DemocraticUnderground - that just happens to be how we met each other.

We have had meet ups at Fong's many times (and the Bloomington DFL has used it often, one reason being that it is union. However, I have no idea how members of the Fong family vote and I really don't care.

22. The main DFL party is at the Crown Plaza Riverfront
in DT St. Paul. That's where my girlfriend and I are going.

As far as O'Gara's is concerned, I always thought it was Republican, but when we went to see Michelle Obama at Macalester, we went to O'Gara's for a beer and there was an Obama fundraiser there.
