1. I think it's the middle of this month - could take a month to complete.

2. It won't start until the 18th, which is the certification deadline for the machine counts.

The hand count should take another week or two. I believe they want it done and over by December 5th at the latest.

(EDIT: I'm probably wrong--I'm not good at remembering dates. December 5th might be an internal goal with december 19th being the deadline. I'll get back to everyone.)

6. Update from my source: State wants it done by Dec 5.
Recount will start Nov 19, and is expected to take about two weeks.

Court cases could tie it up though, and it could even go to the senate (state or US, I forgot to ask) which would likely mean Al Frankin would go to the senate. (Nobody wants it to go that far though; we'd look like another Florida, and we're not.)

7. It could go to the U.S Senate
which has the final say in who gets to join the club.

9. Local recount done by Dec 5th, but state board will meet Dec 16 & hope to finish up by Dec 19
The state canvassing board is scheduled to meet Dec 16th to review disputed ballots. Ritchie said Friday that he hoped they would get their work done by Dec 19th, but no later than x-mas.

Today's Strib explains . . .

How long will the recount take?

Ritchie said Friday that the counting must be done by Dec. 5 and that the Canvassing Board will meet Dec. 16 and hope to finish up by Dec. 19. But things also might depend on legal challenges. A recount after the 1962 gubernatorial election took 139 days.

10. 221 by Friday evening
"The difference between Coleman and Franken, which stood at 725 votes in Coleman's favor Wednesday morning, has changed several times since then as county officials have checked results, and was 221 by Friday evening."

11. I'm just old enough to remember the governors' battle of 1962
and that seemed to drag on FOREVER.

Tonight's quote from my Dad made in that year. He says it was the same year that one of the Twin Cities was on daylight savings time and the other was not.
