Minneapolis school board elections -- please vote for Lydia Lee! |
|
I lived in Mpls on and off for about 20 years, and I still have many friends and connections there -- even though I moved away in 1989 and haven't lived there since. Among those old friends is a current candidate for the Minneapolis school board, Lydia Lee. This is my plea to all Minneapolis DUers to cast your vote for Lydia Lee in the Mpls. school board race, and to urge your friends and family to do likewise.
For those MN DUers who already know me, I would hope that my word would be sufficient. For those that don't know me, I just want to say that Lydia is one of the most intelligent, good-hearted, open-minded and awakened consciousness person that I know. Her presence on the Mpls. school board would be a precious gift to every student in the Mpls. public schools, and a gift to the community as a whole.
PLEASE VOTE FOR LYDIA LEE FOR SCHOOL BOARD! (and tell all your friends!)
I also urge you to vote for Peggy Flanagan for the Mpls. school board as well. While I do not know her personally, I know that she is a friend of Lydia's, as well as a friend of several of my political associates in the Native community. (I am the Affirmative Action Officer of the Pine County DFL, and as such, I interface with the local Native community for GOTV and other issues.)
Please spread the word in Minneapolis -- Lydia Lee and Peggy Flanagan for school board!

1. I voted for them in the primary and see no reason to change! |
|
:-)
And I will add that David Dayhoff shows a disturbing tendency to have his campaign signs show up on lawns that have B/C signs, so he is definitely not on my list!

I've been so caught up in the presidential race that I haven't paid much attention to other matters. It was while I was reading the Minnesota "shout out" thread that it occurred to me to bring up Lydia and Peggy in the Mpls. school board race.
I was SOOOOOOO disappointed that the Strib passed them by in their endorsements. (*cough* assholes! *cough*)
Anyway, thanks for replying. I hope other Minneapolitans will take note as well.

3. Are you doing voter protection up there? |
|
Just wondering. I thought about you last night at the Voter Protection training session at the UM Law School. They were talking about the need in rural areas.

5. I'm an election judge for my precinct. |
|
We are SOOOOOO tiny, and so far out in the boonies, I really don't anticipate any problems. Everybody pretty much knows everybody else, and people are by in large really mellow with each other.
I'm a little unhappy that I've been scheduled for the early part of the day, rather than the evening -- including the ballot counting part. But I've already done the primary election with the same ladies, and it seems to me that all the judges for our precinct are good-hearted, honest women. (yes, all women -- no surprise there...)
I will probably take a break after my shift is done, and then come back and hang out during the evening voting (which is my right). There's little evidence of rabid partisanship up this way. No one's signs have been stolen or messed with, and no one seems to be wildly frothing at the mouth about the election. This area seems to be the essence of old-fashioned Minnesota -- polite disagreement without rancor. I feel quite confident that nothing ugly will be happening here.

6. Hey, Myrna! Thanks for posting! |
|
Someday, next time we have a MN DUer get-together (that I'm able to attend), I'd love to tell you more about Lydia and me. ;-) She and I have a pretty interesting history in common; she and her husband were very good friends of my youngest son's deceased father. She was one of the people who helped me the most after his sudden death (heart attack) -- she will always have a very special place in my heart. I sure hope she gets elected!

8. Before the primary, I ranked all of the school board candidates |
|
in our voter guide (based on their written statements). Lydia and Peggy topped the list!
Dayhoff was at the bottom - GOP endorsed.

David Dayhoff, the Republicanites' choice, came in last. :-) http://www.startribune.com/news/metro/elections/returns/skumsm.htmlOh, yes, and Susan Burke won the judgeship over her Republican opponent.
