I sat between Republicans at the Kerry Rally

At the Kerry rally in Rochester yesterday I sat between two republicans. The first was a woman from Rochester who had already decided to vote for Kerry and was accompanying two democratic women who were friends.

The other, a friend of mine, has been undecided for months. He is a fiscal conservative and does not like bush, but he has never voted for a democrat before. Kerry made a big impression on him during the third debate, and HE called ME earlier in the week to ask if I could get him in to see Kerry speak in person. "No problem," I said, "Kerry's events are open to the public." He was rather surprised to hear that. After the rally he stated that he agreed with most of the things Kerry said and would definitely vote for him on Tuesday.
It is not too late to reach out to undecided voters or wavering republicans!

Some of my favorite comments:
"I have noticed a lot of 'Veterans for Kerry' signs and buttons, but on the news they keep saying that all of the veterans are voting for bush."
"Oh, you sing the National Anthem too? That's great!"

I still remember the look on the face of one of my 1980s era students, a big Reagan groupie, when he found out that one of his friends was a Democrat. The look could be translated as, "But I thought you were a good person!"
