Just renewed my driver's license, will this be a problem on Tues?
I just had to renew my driver's license, so I have my clipped ID and my yellow papers from the DMV that serve as temporary ID until my new driver's license comes in. Is this enough to vote with? I'd bring a utility bill for more verification if I could, but the problem is I rent out part of a house from the parents of a friend, so the bills are in their name. What else could I bring as proof of residency? Thanks.

1. You still have your old license with your photo? You'll need a photo

I.D., I think. You DMV papers will prove the residence, etc., but I think they may ask for a photo I.D. to make sure that YOU are the name on the license.

Sam's Club has photos on their I.D.'s. Driver's license. Some gym club cards.

You may not need it, but since this election is so hostile, I'd be prepared, if I were you.

2. Yep
I have my old driver's license and my yellow papers. I was just worried the fact that it's clipped would be a problem. Thanks :-)

3. You should be ok
As long as you have the clipped license with the Photo ID and the paperwork for the new license shows your current address, you should be fine.

If you want to make sure, call your elections office tomorrow.

4. As long as your addy and name spellings are the same you should have
no problems.

If addy is different but in the same precinct you should still be o.k. but you may have a longer verification process. Take a utility bill with your new addy just as a precation.

Be sure to take your Voter REgistration card. Make a copy of it also. Don't let anyone take your card for longer than necessary.

5. Is it still possible to be vouched for?
In the past, all you needed in Minnesota was someone from the precinct with proper ID to vouch for you if there is a problem. I believe that this is still true.

8. You may still have someone vouch for you but that person needs
to already be a registered voter in your precinct.

6. Your temp license is valid in MN as proper I.D.
In MN you can also vote if another registered voter in the precinct goes in with you and vouches for you.

A student I.D., registration or fees statement showing your current address are valid.

7. You can vote on Monday...
and not have to worry about the lines etc on Tuesday. Need to go to your county courthouse. I live in St. Paul and I'm going to the Ramsey County Courthouse on Kellogg tomorrow to vote absentee.

10. They don't renew licenses on the spot?
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 09:14 PM by gargamel
I'm new to the state, and am going on Monday to the dmv to switch over from a Wisconsin driver's license to a Minnesota one. I figured that they would issue the driver's license there as that has been the norm in my past experience. Am I wrong, this isn't the case in Minnesota (they don't make the IDs at the DMV)?

11. Yes, sad but true

Moving back from Oregon after 19 years, I was expecting that Minnesota had caught up with the times and issued instant laminated photo-bearing driver's licenses. I mean, even the Uptown YWCA has the technology to make instant laminated photo IDs.

I had to walk around with that stupid folded paper for three weeks after passing my rules test. :grr:
