Anyone read Nick Coleman's column today in the Strib |

it was about Pawlenty's grab for Indian casino money but what I liked best was he kept referring to the Taxpayers League as the Tax Evaders League. Wish I had thought of that.

I have to agree with Coleman. For over a century the Natives have lived in poverty. I thought that casinos were a great opportunity for them to bring themselves out of poverty. I think that if we look beyond the casinos we will see that the quality of life is better, education is improving and dispair is ending.
Although I'm not a regular visitor to casinos, I been near the Cass Lake, Mille Lacs, Fond du Lac and Lake Vermilion casinos this fall. Each seemed to have community buildings that were not part of the casino. I think that the casinos have made life better for the Natives.
Shame on Pawlenty and the Republicans. They certainly wouldn't be offering any assistance to the reservations if the casinos were not available to raise moneys.
The amount of money suggested by Pawlenty seems dangerously close to the money needed for new stadiums. I doubt that too many of Native Minnesotans have season tickets, or much less, go to the games.
Pawlenty will increase the tax on Natives, because promised not to increase taxes on Minnesotans. We know now how he feels about the reservations.
He is shameful.
