Just got back from the DFL headquarters in St Paul
and if enthusiasm is any indication of how things are gonna go here... we got it in the bag. The parking lot was full... cars were parked around the block. People prepping every last piece of liturature we could find. Others waiting to run with that liturature to points around the state, and drop it. Tons of help and fun. We are GOING to get the vote out here folks. Just one more day :) :) :) :)

2. I hit the Edwards rally at Hamline U. this morning...
...didn't get inside but enjoyed standing outside and listening to the speech....crowd with JFK/JE signs got almost all positive response, the possible exceptions being two yokels, both with home-made wooden boxes on trucks, painted with GWB signs and looking like they'd been built by the cast of "Deliverance."
If they represent Bush's support in Minn., it's in the bag for Kerry.

got any suggestions for this evening, assuming I have a few hours to devote to the campaign? I was told you could just show up at HQ and they'd give you something to do....

5. I am sure there will be targeted door knocking and calling tonight
Our plan is to try and reach people face to face but we are also calling, and yes people are just showing up at the DFL headquarters.

10. I was at the rally too.
I was a volunteer so of course I had no trouble getting in. I didn't realize there were people outside that didn't get in. That says a lot about the support considering the rally was so early in the morning. Sorry you didn't get in but hopefully he'll swing through MN again when he's VP. :)

I saw the sign wavers along Snelling and made sure to honk. I also saw a lone sign waver on one of the overpasses over 94 so he/she got a honk too. Gotta support the visibility crews, even if they are a crew of one. All the more reason the way I see it.

For more evidence of the Bush support in MN (or the lack thereof), check out my thread on W visibility on Woodbury today.

3. I know my state is blue do you?
Iowa is blue for sure no doubt about it, none. Is that the consensus in MN? I have heard all kinds of stuff in the last two days. My vikings are red? WTF is up with that? I am really pissed off about that one. Taking my childhood team and making it political really pisses me off. I could have killed Joe and Paul on KFAN yesterday! So bottom line is MN as blue as I think it is?

the Vikes thing really got to me. I liked tice until yesterday. I liked him when I was a kid and now he is tainted with the stink of bush. Paul Allen and Joe too, I am disappointed!
In my county for example 1,280 new dems 239 pugs 100 Independents
199,973 of the 326,000 absantees in and they are 70% registerred Dems etc etc etc.

16. Unfortunately here in Nebraska things are still Red State, but
I talked to my sister and her husband in Minnetonka tonight and I think I managed to convince my brother-in-law not to vote for Bush tomorrow. He probably won't vote Kerry, more likely to go Libertarian, but I think we snatched one mark outta the Bush column. My sister was already safely entrenched in the Kerry camp.

9. I was at Brooklyn Park Office today
Volunteers continued to stream in throughout the day. Also, people showing up for signs and bumper stickers which had been stolen.
If you want to volunteer just show up at any of the offices and they will put you to work!
For those in the western or northwestern suburbs:
Meet at Days Inn in Brooklyn Center on Freeway Blvd. starting at 7:30am and throughout the day for canvassing and driving to the polls. I believe they will also have training for those interested in poll watching.

15. I doorknocked in a neighborhood that was overwhelmingly Kerry
The one Republicanite I talked to was predictable from the looks of her house. In a neighborhood of 1950s starter houses, she lived in a place that she was trying to turn into South Fork, complete with a kitschy fountain in front. :-)

I'm feeling very hopeful, too.

I went to the Uptown YWCA this morning, and it seemed that everyone I talked to had been out canvassing or phonebanking or protesting Bush's appearance at the Target Center.

I've NEVER seen this level of involvement in an election.
