I don't want to upstage you Hypnotoad...I just wanted to put a subject line that would catch peoples eye. it was funny I came into the forum for the specific purpose of posting something about getting together. I think we need it (I certainly do)
We've had some success getting people to come to uptown... is that OK with folks? I think the Bryant Lake Bowl might be fun LOL.

Just name a place and time and give us enough advance notice. Also, anyone for staging a local protest on inauguration day? I can't go to DC but I also can't accept that this election wasn't stolen. BBV with no paper trail made it WAY too easy.

I would love to see all of you but Bryant-Lake bowl doesn't do a good enough job of cleaning up the second-hand smoke. I have a migraine for three days if I go there. Someplace union is a great idea.

If Bryant Lake Bowl has too much (read: 'any') smoke, Zeno's (Lake & Hennepin) is non-smoking, as is It's Greek To Me (Lake & Lyndale).
Downtown, there are a dozen great spots on the mall, probably the nicest for a gathering would be The Local (Nicollet & 10th? or 9th?). They have a lounging area between the bar and the restaurant -- comfy chairs and a nearby bartender.

35. Is it The Local of Pazzaluna? |
|
We seem to have a split here. Being Irish, I do lean toward The Local and I've been wanting to check it out, though I understand the point about a union house.
Again, what's the seating like at Pazzaluna? Can we get a big table? We have had a couple meet ups where the seating wasn't the best and that takes away from the fun.

36. The Local DOES have good seating, so it would be my choice |

unless Pazzaluna has spacious seating that could accommodate groups.
Another reason to vote for the Local: I've got a ticket to the Northrup Dance Series for that evening, and I'd rather go from downtown Minneapolis than from downtown St. Paul, since I don't do freeways unless absolutely forced.

I just found out that the dance performance has been cancelled, so I COULD go to Pazzaluna, but unless I find out more about (seating area, menu, etc.) my vote remains The Local, which I have been to and which has lots of seating and is easily accessible for Minneapolitans, especially those of us who have to or prefer to ride the bus.

43. Hmm, a little more upscale (and expensive-looking) than our previous |

meeting places. Reservations! We've never met in a place that takes reservations!
None of this is bad, mind you. It's just that so far we've met at It's Greek to Me (which happened before I moved here), Zeno's in Uptown, whatever that bar next to Zeno's with the peanuts is called, the Bryant-Lake Bowl, the Dunn Brothers on Grand Avenue, and some pizza place out by Lake Nokomis.
Cool website, though.

46. I actually saw Pazzaluna today (Sunday afternoon) |
|
I went to downtown St. Paul to attend the opera (very affecting performance of Madame Butterfly, although I had some quibbles with the way they portrayed Japanese culture), and as I came out of the parking garage, what to my wondering eyes should appear but Pazzaluna.
It was closed, but I looked through the windows, and the interior is indeed large and attractive, but I also checked out the posted menu, and it's a bit more expensive than I feel comfortable with for a DU gathering, because I know that some of our people may not want to pay $8-9 for appetizers and $15 and up for entrees.
So my vote for The Local stands.

If you go during happy hour, not sure on saturday's though. Pazzaluna is very cheap. $2.00 beers and $3.00 pizza. I work across the street from there and on week nights 5-7:00 great prices. I haven't been there on a weekend in a while.
