1. Do you have any actual reports of voting problems? |
|
I already read your links in the other thread, but they were PRE-election articles. I want to know if there are any election day reports of problems, because I certainly haven't heard of any.
Raising an alarm based on something someone heard in passing on the radio with absolutely no details isn't very helpful, imho.

2. imho you need to backtrack and read the veritable flurry of activity |
|
regarding voting fraud today on this board. I just searched for you and came up with a comment from Bev Harris talking about Minnesota: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=printer_friendly&forum=104&topic_id=2611336&mesg_id=2614629... Diebold optical scan in Minnesota are associated with one of the anomalies that is on our "A" list. Optical scans in Florida are also tied up with an "A" list problem. Bev

3. Yes, I've been following and posting on that other thread. |
|
If Bev Harris wants to take on Diebold at the national level, more power to her. If she can make a case that ALL Diebold optical scan machines need to be jettisoned, THEN it involves Minnesota.
But sending out an urgent call, "LAWYERS NEEDED IN MINNESOTA" as though there's a problem right now, is a whole different matter.
I think both these threads are rather irresponsible. If Bev needs help in Minnesota, she already has a connection with Representive Hilty, who has already worked with her on the voting machine issue.
This all started with someone posting that they heard bbv needed lawyers in Minnesota on the radio. If and when Bev might actually require any help from DUers, I believe that she would most certainly post the request herself.

4. there was a BBV spokesman on the Mike Malloy show tonight who |
|
asked for lawyers to help in Minnesota. Period. Please complain to BBV and Bev Harris if you disapprove of their methods.

5. Cool, Bill's worked with Bev before? |
|
That's great!!! I know dpbrown has an election background and may be somebody to pull in if need be. Otherwise, I'm with you on this.
I'd rather wait for Bev to issue the call than to just jump on things. Minnesota has a VERY good tradition of clean and fair elections, even using the opti-scan ballots.
Given the current Secratary of State in MN, I'd be VERY concerned about stirring things up just for the sake of stirring things up. I could easily see her doing somehthing to jeopardize the results for our state-- where the DFL gained 13 seats in the state house, and carried MN for Kerry.

6. Yep. He was THE guy that pushed the issue against bbv machines. |
|

He put a coalition together, and with the help of Bev's research they succeeded in getting Kiffmeyer to back down. They got her staff convinced that electronic voting was a VERY BAD IDEA, and Kiff couldn't push it any more. An agreement was signed that no paperless machines would be used in Minnesota.
Bill first got in contact with Bev back in 2002. I'll be seeing him at our next Pine County DFL meeting in ten days. I'll for sure be asking him about this "lawyers needed in Minnesota" stuff.
I'm with you. It makes no sense to stir things up when we've just had such good results.

8. AFAIK she's not, but she's very astute |
|
She does hold office in the local county DFL organization where she lives, and she's friendly with Bill Hilty (and probably several other officeholders, too). She also ran as a Kucinich delegate at the state convention in May (and would have made a darn good one, IMHO), and has been very active in the DFL for the past several years.
I've met her several times (in real life), and she's the right kind of activist we need in this party!!!!

I'm a much better skunk in the ointment than I am a leader of people. Plus it gives me leeway to act like a complete @$$h013 at the conventions, if need be. :dunce:

10. Nope, not a politician. |
|
As no_name_no_slogan posted, I'm simply a DFL party activist. I'm currently serving my 2nd term as the affirmative action officer for the Pine county DFL.
I have the great good fortune to live in a rural area full of other progressives; including my state representative, Bill Hilty, my state senator, the incomparable Becky Lourey -- and of course, our wonderful 8th district Congressman, Jim Oberstar.
Being a party hack means I get to meet and connect with lots of people -- office-holders included -- and being in a rural district means that EVERYBODY knows EVERYBODY. Plus, I'm a member of the DFL state central committee platform commission, so I get to network with other party activists from all over the state.
My heart belongs to the DFL, the BEST state democratic party ANYWHERE! :bounce:

If anyone out there reading this thread doesn't already know it, Mary Kiffmeyer is a real piece of republican poop.
The City Pages has done many articles on her royal poopiness, esp. over the last 4-5 weeks.
Look it up. She is a real stinker.
As far as fraud goes, for whatever it is worth, my doctor said he got a ballot that was already filled out during the 2002 mid-term elections. (This was the election where Wellstone was running, but we ended up with that sellout tuna sandwich, Norm Coleman, as "our" senator.)
