His master's voice: Normie Coleman awaits instructions on tax reform

The bill that has been introduced into Congress is cosponsored by Minnesota Congressman Gil Gutknecht (1st District, guess which party).

<snip>
- Rep. Gil Gutknecht invites you to ponder a bold future, a future with no IRS.

"Think of a world where there is no income tax, where you get to keep everything you earn and you pay the tax man when you buy stuff," said the Minnesota Republican.

That's the basic premise behind a proposed national sales tax, just one of many ideas for overhauling the nation's tax code. Under a bill cosponsored by Gutknecht, all federal taxes on income would disappear, but consumers would pay a 23 percent federal sales tax on their consumption -- on top of existing state taxes.

Bush is going to form a commission to decide how the system should be changed. And Minnesota's own weasel, Normie Coleman can only say "he likes the idea of a flat tax because of its simplicity. He declined to endorse a national sales tax, saying he wants to see what the presidential commission recommends."

Meanwhile, Minnesota's only Senator, Mark Dayton said "he favors simplifying the system to close tax loopholes but that imposing a flat tax would be just another way to benefit wealthy."

The article made no mention of the insidious BIRTH TAX

1. Dear God
"Think of a world where there is no income tax, where you get to keep everything you earn and you pay the tax man when you buy stuff," Wow, that's like some kind of futuristic utopia. Now all we need is flying cars :eyes: It's like talking to dogs, all you have to do is sound excited and happy and they will think what you are saying is good.

2. I WANT MY FLYING CAR! THEY PROMISED US FLYING CARS!
Sorry. I think I'm finally losing my mind. Watching the Fourth Reich crystalizing before our very eyes, war crimes and purges and apocalypse...

May I please relocate to a different planet?

4. I forgot to add that apparently Normie is ignoring the results
of his own poll and the election results in Minnesota. You'd think even this weasel could figure out that the state he allegedly represents is not amused with what has been going on.

14. My next Halloween costume
I'm gonna dress up in a suit, wear a name tag that reads "Hello, my name is: Norm Coleman" and then sew a forearm into the seat of my pants that reads "GOP." ;)

6. I wrote an LTTE about how such a tax would affect me
as a self-employed person. In short, very adversely.

7. More about the birth tax
Why isn't this getting any coverage?

I've heard it's set at $7,500 -- per head.

9. OK, I'm sorry I didn't get to the meet up
but what the heck is this birth tax thing? Oh, and btw, the Mn Taxpayers League is telling everyone what a great idea this sales tax is. These people just have no clue and I don't understand how anyone so stupid has managed to stay alive for so long. You'd think they'd forget how to breathe...

10. And a little googling cleared that up
Good info on flat tax and birth tax here: http://www.ithadtobeyou.net/carpe/archives/000300.html

"Well, everyone pays the same tax on a loaf of bread, but because everyone does not have the same income, the tax is by definition regressive. A flat sales tax on a necessity item (a class of items defined as something pretty much everyone has to buy sooner or later) takes a larger percentage of a poor person's income than a rich person's income."

11. What about the tax on a house?
I wonder how the rich repubs will like this idea once they find out they have to pay sales tax on a house -- tens of thousands of dollars on an expensive house -- and can't deduct that on their tax form.

12. Since the repugs are writing the rules
there will no doubt be special loopholes for that sort of thing...
