Dayton bumped from Iraq "fact finding tour" by Repubs.
Details are still sketchy. There was a brief piece in the Strib and on NPR today.

Sen. Mark Dayton wants to make a return trip to Iraq, but his request has been denied, the Minnesota Democrat said Wednesday.

Dayton speculated that his request was denied by the Senate Armed Services Committee because he has criticized President Bush's handling of the war and because he's up for reelection in 2006.

"Either one of those reasons is absolutely wrong, and unjust and unwarranted, and I regret very much the committee's decision," he said in a conference call with reporters.

Dayton is A MEMBER OF THE SENATE ARMED SERVICES COMMITTEE!!!
The Democratic Party should not TOLERATE this kind of abuse. They have been denied their traditional roles as a minority party in the government. They should look to the Texas Democrats for guidance.
I AM PISSED that my Party has allowed themselves to be reduced to quivering whining jello.

Sen. Dayton finds a way to get to Iraq

Associated Press

FARGO, N.D. - Earlier this week Sen. Mark Dayton fumed about being left off a Senate trip to Iraq, but on Friday said he's found a way to get there.

The Minnesota Democrat told a KFGO-AM audience that he'll join Sen. Joe Liberman, D-Conn., and others on a trip to Iraq and other nations in January.

Dayton has said he thinks Senate Republicans left him off the Senate Armed Services Committee fact-finding trip for partisan reasons.

In a fund-raising letter sent Wednesday, Dayton speculated he was being left behind because he opposed the war or because Republicans targeted him for defeat in 2006. As proof of being singled out, he said a Democrat with less seniority than him on the committee was invited to participate.

2. WOW, I finally found something I can like...
...about Holy Joe. I am unable to find the update you mentioned from AAR. (I don't doubt you, I just want all the details.) In fact, I am unable so far to find many details at all.

I am glad Mark Dayton will go on the Fact Finding Tour. I trust Dayton's facts. (In fact, after some initial reservations, I've become a big fan.)

3. Thanks for the info...
I posted before reading your update.....

Is Dayton circumventing the Republican denial??
I still believe that this kind of dirty politics played by the Republicans need to be addressed by the Democratic Party in a unified way.

4. Dayton is a good guy to have on our side.
I am really happy he found a way over to Iraq. Gop is trying to hold him down, we cant let that happen.

5. We can't do anything except express our concerns...
and support.

Our represenatives in the House and Senate MUST do something! To continue to tolerate this kind of abuse is to ask for more.
Most of our Dems are behaving like battered wives.

7. but he's NOT going on the Fact Finding tour with the rest of the committee
- so he's going to NOT get access to whatever info they're given and shown - maybe that lower ranked Dem will try to fill him in.

Regardless of when or how Dayton is getting there, being snubbed and excluded is obscene, banana republic tactics.

10. Dayton
The ReSUCKplicans have indicated that they are gunning for Mr Dayton's Senate seat.

My question for you is,

what is the DNC/DFL doing to insure that Mr Dayton will return to the Senate in 2 years?

what steps are the DNC/DFL taking to get KissButt Coleman's Senate seat?

11. No replies
Do I take this to mean that the DFL is conceding Mr Dayton's seat and will not contest KissButt Coleman's seat?

How sad it is for the USA when we will have one party rule.
