Dean Johnson would also be acceptable.

because she's good. Smart, on top of things, responsive. I also like Sheldon Johnson. He appears to be kind of quiet but when he speaks it hits you that this is a man of great wisdom. That's been my experience anyway.

4. I hope she runs for Senate - to whip Normie in '06. |
|
She's such a good legislator, I wouldn't want to lose her talent on the national stage.

6. What about Becky Lourie? |
|
I don't know if that's spelled correctly, but I do recall she ran against Moe for the nomination last time - and appears to have a pre-existing populist spine.

but I don't think he'd run well against the charming, affable servant of the Taxpayers League, Tim.
I think we need someone new, from outside the party structure, maybe someone like this non-profit founder who has announced.

It also cannot be someone who like Moe gets the nomination just because of senority or "it is his turn now to run".
And you are right, they cannot try to win by out-detaxing the Taxpayer's League.
Dig the heels in, show them what Pawlenty's pledge has done over the past 4 years versus before Pawlenty came to power.
Most Republicans in Minnesota are moderates overall in the style of Arne Carlson, not Pawlenty.
Any quasi-DLC playbook must be abondoned. The DFL has to run on ITS ground, not on the GOP's ground.
The voters need to see a choice of A vs B, not A vs a.

10. Who I'd like to see is Keith Ellison |
|
a state rep from Minneapolis.
I just heard him speak at a public event for the second time today.
Great speaker, polished, upbeat, smart, and very engaging.
A couple comments he made today: Everybody is talking about whether Democrats should move to the left or to the right. Keith said we should "go down," develop a relationship with our neighbors, and bring people together to argue and discuss the collective good.
He also said to effect real change, we're going to have to do things that aren't so comfortable. (As a shy Norwegian, I can identify with that!)
His take on *'s Social Security "reform" is that they are trying to make SS look bad, so they can get their hands on our money. If we don't fight this privatization of SS, our parents will be eating canned dog food.
He has lots of good messages I can get behind.
If you get a chance to meet him and hear him speak, please do!
