Hennepin County Government Center Plaza. Four groups are sponsoring it as a counter-inaugural event, but it has not been publicized very much. I picked up a flyer at a coffee shop.

I'm planning on going to the 4:30 protest and the Blue Ball. Anybody else here going?

Thursday 1/20 @ 4:30PM @ Hennepin County Govt. Ctr. Plaza, 3rd Avenue & 5th Street, Mpls.

On the day G.W. Bush starts his second term in office, thousands of people will be demonstrating across the nation to call for an end to the war in Iraq. Come to the Minneapolis protest, at one of the busiest intersections in town during rush hour to be part of a visible anti-war presence. Wear an item of black clothing to express mourning for all those who have lost their lives in the war in Iraq. Initiated by Iraq Peace Action Coalition. Click here for flyer.

4. The Blue State Ball sounds like fun, but...
between having to meet a deadline and being somewhat broke because a client is late in paying (they have always paid in the past, but they take their sweet old time), I think I'd better skip it. :-(

thanks for braving the elements to carry the torch for us.

Could you give us a few more details?

7. sure
the rally started at noon, but i had bible prophecy class 12.30, so I was a little late. It was sponsored by Socialist Alternative and AWOL (Anti-war Organizing League), two campus groups. I'd say at the rally there were 50-100 people, and most students who walked by would cheer us on a little bit.

At about 1 we started marching, down Washington Avenue, towards an army recruitment center. There were a little less people there for the march, i'd put it at 50 at the high end. There were tons of cars honking in support for us, and even two buses. One car that had "bomb saddam" written on the back of it stopped to yell at us, then drove on. A group of 3 people walked by us, shouted "get the fuck over it" and the one woman bumped into me fairly hard. The overwhelming respone was positive though. We got to the army recruitment center, where we heard from a person representing students at a local high school who are working to get army recruiters out of their school. We then stood outside chanting slogans, there was one person throwing snowballs at the recruitment center, until one of the ladies organizing the event made him stop, and somebody wrote "No Blood for Oil" in big blue letters on the glass window in the front of the buliding. At that point, they locked the doors. None of us had violent intentions, but I guess they were afraid of us. We stood there for about 20 minutes maybe, and then they ended the rally, and said they hoped to see us at the one later in the day at 4.30. Sadly, I didn't get to go to that one.

Oh, and I skipped my incredibly dull art class to go to march. I felt that since I'm majoring in political science, the protest was more important to my education than art was. ;-)

8. Thanks....
Some say that protesting does not accomplish anything.
I disagree.

The very least it does is let me know I am not alone. I love the energy of My People.
I need to see, hear, smell, touch, and raise my voice with them.
It can get depressing just staring at a computer screen night after night, or listening to the CorpoMedia till I retch.

See you in the streets!
