Gutknecht considering run for U.S. Senate |
|
http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/breaking_news/10693385.htm?1cRep. Gil Gutknecht said Thursday he is considering running for U.S. Senate next year, putting his name on a list of potential Republican candidates that already includes fellow Minnesota Rep. Mark Kennedy.
Gutknecht, a 10-year House veteran, has staked out an independent position on some issues, particularly on allowing Americans to import drugs from Canada.
"I recognize I have to make a decision, for sure one way or another, fairly soon," Gutknecht said in an interview at an inaugural reception sponsored by the Minnesota State Society. ...
Gutknecht, who represents Rochester, said he didn't envision a primary battle with Kennedy. Instead, switching on a "Godfather" voice, Gutknecht said he hoped it would be settled "by a meeting of all the families" - state party leaders and Minnesota Republicans in Congress.

1. Still think it will be Mark Kennedy |
|
The state GOP party really has no say over this. The decision will be pre-approved from Washington (probably Rove). If they like Gil at the White House, he is in. If they don't he is quickly out.
I doubt they would choose him. Gil does not seem to be like the current "W" style Republican. Kennedy fits this bill much better.

3. What we should do is start making a list of every vote we don't like |
|
and hold it to them come elections. If we keep a running list of how them Bush copies act, and how Dayton counters them it will be very beneficial.
Most Minnesotans don't like the GOP. If we hit hard with the big cities we can keep Dayton in the Senate. Actually he did a lot to help out farmers recently didn't he? Maybe we can take back some rual voters as well.
I do know in my area "Kennedy's district 6" he does seem very popular.

4. I hope he runs for senator. |
|
At least he wouldn't be my congressman anuymore. He has absolutely ZERO interest in any cities in his district except Rochester. I should say I hope he runs for the senate and loses big. :P

5. Mark Kennedy? District 6 is mostly the north suburbs... |
|
Are you sure he is in Rochester?
Either way, he can do less damage as a Representative versus a Senator.

6. No, I hope Gutknecht runs for senate. |
|
I hope he runs (and loses) so I don't have him as my congressman anymore. He does NOTHING for those of us in his district who don't live in Rochester.

7. He's my congressman too |
|
and yes, you are correct. He is just the congressman for one city, and is completely worthless.
