I received a response from Sen Dayton today - I don't think |
|
it is entirely a form reply, but who knows?
I intend to reply taking up the issue he states is his reason behind his actions in the Senate on 1/6/05: ..."is a profound intrusion into a Democratic election. Such a process should be pursued only when the most extreme and compelling evidence points to fraud of sufficient magnitude to steal the election...", you will see this below in a copy of the letter I'm posting here.
I wrote him before and after letters regarding the Ohio vote/electoral issues.
So here's the email I received about 10 minutes ago....
Dear Ms. Balterman:
Thank you for contacting me about the certification of the 2004 Presidential electoral vote.
I strongly agree with you that every American should have the right to vote and know that his or her vote will be counted accurately. It is imperative that in the very near future, we look not just at Ohio, but at the election process in all the states so that we can make necessary changes to the conduct of our elections.
I did not oppose the election results when the electoral vote count came before the Senate and the House of Representatives, because Congress is not the proper public authority to adjudicate election results. For Members of Congress to vote—after a two-hour debate prescribed under existing federal law—whether to reject a state's certified tally of votes, eliminate its electoral votes, and, in this case, throw the election into the House of Representatives for another partisan vote, is a profound intrusion into a Democratic election. Such a process should be pursued only when the most extreme and compelling evidence points to fraud of sufficient magnitude to steal the election. I did not see evidence of such a violation in the 2004 Presidential election.
Thank you again for being in touch with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me again regarding any other matters of concern to you.
My best regards. Sincerely,
Mark Dayton United States Senator

America this afternoon? He's going to vote against Condi and Gonzales! I guess that's going to change the nature of my reply. Lucky for him...

4. Dayton seems like a bulldog to me - I saw him interrogate Rumsfeld |
|
on c-span a few months ago and he lit into the man with great expertise and knowledge. Bravo, if he votes against Rice/Gonzales!

5. Here's is what I just sent back to Dayton: |

Hello again,
I was not happy with your response below because of what you actually did on Jan 6th during the Ohio Electoral debate. If you did not know, which is the impression I got from the last minute updating you received (last day or two before by local voter's rights groups) it would have been better to just let it ride (though I still would not be satisfied) - you did not need to actually get up and speak out against the Boxer protest. BUT IT APPEARS THAT YOU ARE NOW READY TO FIGHT!
And for this I am grateful - I am very glad of your position against Condi and Gonzales, it is time to step up to our responsibility to defend this country against criminal behavior. When I say this I include myself. Things were getting too far out of hand and I stood by and let it - now I must fight to get the country back and I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE TOO.
I will continue to support you and I also need your support. We each have an important role. We must fight them at every opportunity, even if today that only allows us to hinder them, it will build to something greater. There are so many people waking up today, myself included, you will be surprised perhaps to see the support you will have behind you, now and when you fight for re-election. Minnesota will not let you down.
