Did anyone go to their county caucus on Saturday 4/17/04? |
|
I went to the Orange County Caucus in Hillsborough. We were all little confused since this is a new activity to this state, but turnout was phenominal.
Hillsborough was steady all morning, though you didn't have to wait to vote.
Chapel Hill was overflowing: out the door and around the block.
What about your county? Or are you waiting to vote in the July primary?

not too shabby a turnout, not at the door when i was there, but a healthy crowd.
i'd love to see the numbers, but i understand the final count isn't due until 4/30!

though I don't doubt it. :D LOL! I had to leave early to get ready for company Sat night.
I did hear David Price and the Raging Grannies.
I talked to a guy who is setting up an Orange Dems website. He was taking pics for it. So hopefully we will be better informed about activities in the county.

19. Yes! Lotsa "Beat Bush" stickers everywhere! |
|
B-)
I personally pointed several people to the Dem table.
The tree guy actually kinda broke character to point to my sticker and kiss my hand! I was thrilled! I had taken several pictures of him, and was a little embarrassed I only had minimal pocket change to give him.

12. College students seriously sleep-deprived |
|
should be getting 9hrs a night. Most students are limping by on 6.6-7 hrs. Duke decided to start class at 8:30 instead of 8. Besides, apparently no one was signing up for 8am classes anyway. ;-)
This will probably just encourage students to go to bed at 3:30am rather than 3am not. LOL! ;-)

I was on my first day of vacation and ended up cleaning out the garage. I think my roomie would have killed me if I had tried to leave for something else.
On the up side the garage looks great.

And my county convention later that afternoon, too! (Wilmington--New Hanover County). I signed up to be a delegate to the State Convention in Raleigh on June 19.
Though our turnout was--like most in the state, I suppose--extremely low, we did have a line waiting to vote in the last 15 minutes or so of voting. John Edwards got 178 votes, and John Kerry got 100 (of which one was mine, since General Clark was not on the ballot). Met a couple involved in his campaign locally, and they invited me to the next Meet-Up for him this Thursday night.
I remember going to the Orange County Party conventions back when I was an undergrad--and in Y.D.s--at Carolina. They were fun, and, coming from a hard-core right-wing place like Goldsboro, it was different--and really good--to see some of the very left-wing viewpoints expressed there. I enjoyed those days, and how involved and informed everyone was there.
But, thanks to the Web, more people are becoming better-informed nowadays, too; it really does my heart good to see, when I go to Party-related meetings here, or just talk with some like-minded people, that they are so "up" on events because of the desire to keep up with them, and because of the access they have to "unfiltered" news on the Web.
Hope to see you at the State Convention in June!:D

17. I did in Durham County. |

The place was really hopping.
Then we drove over and hit the "Bake Back the White House" sale for some goodies and gave them a donation too!
Felt good.

I was in Chapel Hill for a conference at the end of the week and I didn't get home in time Saturday. I did see some of the RDU coverage about it, though- I hope the turnout was good.

20. The NC Democratic Party Screwed Up |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-22-04 08:13 AM by HFishbine
As an unafiliated voter, I would have been eligible under NC law to have voted in the Dem party primary. The Party decided that their caucus would not be so inclusive however. Big mistake. At a time when the dems should have been trying to get more people supporting democrats, they chose an exclusionary route. The result? Edwards "wins" with fewer votes than the entire population of Fuquay-Varina.

they were neck-and-neck in my district. E fought the good fight, and I really don't have any problem getting on board with K.
Wish more had voted, but personally have nothing against the population of VF, either, some being dear friends.

|
Look at the schedule at SBOE http://www.sboe.state.nc.us/and compare to the convention date. Overal;, Durham caucuses went Edwards > Kerry > Kucinich > Sharpton. We in Durham just loved listening to JE&AS. But caucus here generally low turn-out; see details at http://www.ncdp.org/PDF/CaucusVote.pdf
