2. It's a really cool initiative
You can go on the DNC website to get all the details.

Another news blast from the DNC today: they are looking for hosts for "Watch Parties" on the 31st when Bush gives his State of the Union speech. Another way to raise money (and get people together).

5. Come to Cleveland
Surprising he's not come to Cleveland yet. I've got better things to do with my time than drive 4 hours to Columbus.

9. Tee hee
I take I-71. Its a trip I make very frequently. Traveling at the speed limit and accounting for traffic, it takes between 3.5 to 4 hours.

Where do you live?

16. North of Columbus
southern Delaware County (I'm one of the 10 Democrats in the township). 123 miles from my house to the E. 9th St. Exit.

I think I see your problem -- driving the speed limit on I-71.

I'm in Akron, but then I guess I do have a lead foot.

13. I've made that trip quite a few times
It's never taken me more than three hours, closer to two and a half, in moderate traffic. Leaving from just north of downtown Columbus.

What part of Cleveland are we talking about? Because you can easily drive from Cincinnati to Cleveland in four hours.

Now, Rt. 3, that would take all damned day.

22. I think you're missing the point
The point is if Dems want to win in Ohio, they need to spend time in the parts of Ohio where Dem voters live.

I'll never forget the time I was volunteering for the Gore/Lieberman campaign. We'd been trying to get Tipper Gore to come to Cuy Co for weeks. Finally the Gore folks in Columbus called and said "Tipper is coming to Ohio! She's going to Cincinnati, but we can't find enough people to attend the rally. Could you get a bunch of women from Cleveland to drive to Cincinnati to meet with Tipper?" I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

OTOH, Clinton, who knew how to win swing voters for a wide margin of victory in Ohio, came to Cuyahoga Co many, many times. His campaign knew what others don't - the area has a huge number of swing voters, the majority women, who will vote Dem when you take the time to campaign here.

That's pretty typical of Dem campaigning in Ohio that's resulted in losses. The pattern hasn't changed. Howard Dean hasn't been to Cleveland or Cuyahoga County since he's been elected chair, yet he's been to Columbus many times.

People in Cuyahoga Co have jobs, they can't take off time from work to drive to Columbus to see Howard Dean or any other Dem leader when, if those people took the time to come up here, they would attract and mobilize three times as many supporters. The law of diminishing returns says focusing Dem campaigns on Franklin Co will continue to result in Dem losses.

Its silly anyone would even have to make this argument, but perhaps that's why we're still losing races here.

7. I'm not surprised that you would not
give any time to an Ohio Democratic function.......You have left me with this impression.... "You can talk the talk-trash but never venture to walk the walk."

10. Like...why would I?
I can donate easily online to candidates of Northeastern Ohio. Columbus is a 1 1/2 hour drive for me, one way and I support the Party...repeatedly by actively attending gatherings. I work 60 hours a week for a living and still manage to travel to the Capitol of Ohio to support my Democratic Leaders and to engage in proactive agenda's.

12. Same here
I'd rather work for the party here in NE Ohio, there's no need for me to travel 3-4 hours to Columbus for ODP events.

Even more important, the hundreds of thousands of Dem voters who live in northeast Ohio feel the same way.

20. I went to the Statehouse event. Barba7 from DU,
a nurse I work with went with me. She had to go back to the Office at 1PM so we didn't go to the DFA gathering on Kinnear. I got to speak with Chris Redfern (briefly at that!), Dan Stewart, Marc Dann and as always, C.J Prentiss and Joyce Beatty. The entire group was empowering to see. The message of ending corruption was the theme. Dean use this media platform to introduce a national ethics reform package which is to be announced by Nancy Pelosi today. He was most articulate and charasmastic today....a real feel of Party Unity and mission. They all signed a Petition to the fact which equates to the online version.

Here are some links. I'll post pic's tomorrow night if they are any good.
