Strickland is almost certain to pick Peter Lawson Jones, |
|
Cuyahoga County Commissioner, as his running mate...
Candidates for Gov have to select a running mate before circulating petitions....
Jones, a Lieberman supported in the recent election for Ohio Democratic Chairman, is also African American and has run statewide before...
This would be a great move on the part of the Strickland Camp as it extends a very large Olive Branch to all the Northeastern Ohio Democrats who supported Lieberman over Redfern. It also blunts the charge by the GOP that the democrats are not rewarding their strongest faction, minorities....
Look for an announcement within the week...

Peter is a brilliant man. I have no idea how he finds the time to do all the things that he is involved in. He would be a great addition to the ticket.

3. Great news, good choice |
|
I remember how Peter did such a good job in that difficult race when he ran with Bob Burch.
Having Peter on the ticket may earn the Ohio Dems points with Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who was insulted so badly by the Redfern folks.
ODP leaders have some major "fence - mending" to do in order to gain respect and trust from NE Ohio Dems. Its a step in the right direction, but I doubt they'll ever have it completely.

4. Wow, very interesting. I love Peter. No local politician gives a better |
|
stump speech than Peter. Passionate, articulate and very funny.
This primary season in Ohio will be interesting. Let's see Brown/Hackett and Fingerhut/Strickland, which cream will rise to the top????

I hope he picks Peter. I'm thinking it will be Hackett because of the recognition he got in the November Special Election and Strickland because he like Hackett are both well liked and personable.

6. Yes but they are both from the southern end of the state.... |
|
and Hackett's ego would never stand to be number two....
(Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, neither would Sherrod Brown...)
Jones is comfortable in his political skin...
Not afraid to take chances....
Not afraid to speak his mind...
And he is from the Cleveland area, well known and respected there....
And to be blunt, he is an African American who would be near the top of a ticket dominated, so far at least, by white males....

I would rather see Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic but for some reason Jones would just look better on a yard sign. I don't think it will be Jones. Sorry Cuyahoga County. I see a NW or SW Ohio running mate.
