Democrats outline ethics reform plan in Ohio

Updated: 11:51 AM
Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean outlined a national ethics reform package today that would prohibit lawmakers from accepting most gifts from lobbyists, saying Democrats must be the agent of change to end state and federal corruption scandals.
...
More than two dozen Democratic members of the Ohio House and Senate joined with Dean to sign the national petition to Congress to restore honest leadership to government, which coincides with unveiling of Democrats' reform package on Capitol Hill.

"The cost of corruption is real to Ohioans, and it's real to Americans, and we're going to put an end to that," said Dean, standing just a few feet away from the ceremonial Statehouse office of Gov. Bob Taft.

1. I thought it was a warm and empowering
news conference. It was great to see all the Ohio Democratic Leaders side-by-side with Dean. It was powerful.....to be at the front door of the corrupt Gov. Taft!

2. PD/AP story:

"The cost of corruption is real to Ohioans, and it's real to Americans, and we're going to put an end to that," said Dean, standing just a few feet away from the ceremonial Statehouse office of Gov. Bob Taft.

The Republican governor pleaded no contest in August to failing to report golf outings and other gifts he was treated to, becoming the state's first governor convicted of a crime.

The event, at which Democrats signed a petition in support of ethics reform, was the first outside Washington in support of the reform proposals.

Dean's visit gave a national stage to an argument Ohio Democrats have been making for months: voters should end 12 years of Republican domination of state government because of pervasive GOP corruption.

3. Taft Disgusts Me
as does our State Legislature.

The cuts they have made to the public education funding in this state are astounding.

Education is not a priority in this state and that is disturbing, to say the least.
