"Dayton Daily News" Article |
|
This morning's newspaper headlines (in the LOCAL section) a story "Kerry calls for U.S.-made hybrid cars" and then goes on to point out that Kerry seems to have forgotten that Honda has plants in Ohio that employ 16,000 workers. (Most of them not UAW which has endorsed Kerry.) OK, fair game; Kerry should have known that.
My beef: Kerry was asked about the cars he owns -- Chevrolet Suburban (owned not by Kerry, but by his "family"), Dodge 600 and a Chrysler 300M -- and then states that the Suburban is a gas-guzzler, and that Dodge and Chrysler are no longer exclusively American companies;it's now Daimler-Chrysler.
What kind of cars does Shrub own?
Another beef: the article then quotes Kevin Madden, a Bush campaign spokesman, who states Kerry's first instinct is to "bad mouth the economy right when we're in the middle of an economic recovery."
What recovery? What is the unemployment rate in Ohio?
I feel a letter to the editor coming on . . .

BTW, Kerry will be in Ohio next week; Youngstown and Cleveland on Tuesday and Toledo on Wednesday.
If any of you are attending, let us know how it goes, please.

Although Honda and Toyota have some plants here, I don't believe they have geared up any of those plants to manufacture the higher-end hybrids. They still say " Made in Japan" on the sticker.

2. Correct. Honda hybrids are made in Japan |

I saw it on the sticker. I think Kerry is a bit clumsy on this issue. I don't think it was a fatal error anyway

There are no hybrids made in the US.
It seems like the article thinks just because Japanese automakers have plants in the US that the hybrids are made in the US.
Unless you mean he was a bit clumsy about the SUV issue, which I agree with.
