Ohio newcomer with a voter registration question
Hello Ohio duers-
I've lived in Ohio almost 4 years now and just recently registered to vote. When I lived in Pennsylvania, you checked off your party affiliation when you filled out the voter registration. I did not see any party listing on the Ohio registration form. Is this normal?
Thanks

1. You're a brave fellow...
to move to Ohio and still use the Pittsburgh Steelers avatar!

2. At the polls,
for the Primary election, the pollworkers will ask which one you want. You can change at any time. A few years ago, I changed to D. What a feeling. There is also an independent ballot.

3. Totally normal.
Under Ohio election law, your party affiliation is determined by which ballot you request at a partisan primary election. The specific language is somewhere in Title XXXV of the Ohio Revised Code (I think), but I couldn't find it at the moment.

4. Thanks all-
I think I missed the primary, though...can I pick my affiliation on election day? Dumb question, but remember, I'm a Steelers fan!

6. No, you will wait until the next primary.
I just checked your profile. You are a brave Steelers fan to be living in Cleveland!

10. "Screwed"
Why are you "screwed"? There's no real significance to party affiliation other than primary voting.

Anyway, there will be a new primary election next May for most local races. If there are any contested races locally, you can make a declaration then. :)

11. Oh ok...
All I care about is voting in this years's election. As long as I'm registered to do that, I'm solid.

5. That is correct
At your first primary, you will be asked if you are voting D or R. That D or R will follow you to the next primary. You may change party affiliation on the day of the primary by filling out a card stating that you are making the change.

And a warm DU welcome to a fellow Stiller fan!

12. You're not alone. Check out the Walz branch of the Cleveland Public
Library. Around west 80th & Detroit, across the Detroit Superior bridge.

Thursdays at lunchtime, I have a fellow Steelers fan who was surprised that I properly pronounced "Swickley".
