SW OH DUers needed to rebuke Cinti. Enquirer
The following is so obviuously not true. IMO the fact it is a Your Voices column does not absolve the Enquirer from fact checking such obvious libel.

http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/10/10/editorial_ralph.html

"Tax legislation proposed in the Senate by Kerry last year was designed to crack down on companies doing business overseas, but the proposal had one giant loophole: an exemption for H.J. Heinz, the source of his wife's vast fortune."

written by,

Ralph E. Patsfall of Columbia Township retired from GE Aircraft Engines in 1988 as chief manufacturing engineer, and held many other positions during his 36 years at GE. He also has been an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati and at Miami University.

3. He lifted the paragraph you have listed from Newsmax.
Word for word. Isn't that plagiarism?
"Story" pushed in the National Review by Donald Luskin.

6. Newpapers object strongly to plagerized or carbon-copied letters
Be sure to let the Enquirer know that. Even if you just phone them.

4. Letter to RCooklis.
I would like for the enquirer to print a retraction of "Outsourcing-good for our economy". After checking the most serious of Mr. Patsfall's claims, I found that he parroted a line from the another source and changed the wording slightly to make his claim more damning. He wrote: "Tax legislation proposed in the Senate by Kerry last year was designed to crack down on companies doing business overseas, but the proposal had one giant loophole: an exemption for H.J. Heinz, the source of his wife's vast fortune." The article he lifted this assertion from was the highly dubious source of Newsmax. The claim, which has never been independently verified, was put forth by Donald Luskin. Donald Luskin is far from being a disinterested party. The line that he plagiarized actually said:"Tax legislation proposed by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry last year was designed to crackdown on companies doing business overseas - but the proposal had one giant loophole: an exemption for companies like the H.J. Heinz Foods Co., the source of his wife's vast fortune." The removal of the words 'companies like' from the sentence, makes the reader believe that only the Heinz company would benefit from this legislation. Companies like the Heinz corporation make food products which are better suited to be produced in the countries in which they will most likely be consumed.
I have attached the link to the original article Mr. Patsfall failed to cite. Mr Patsfall could have made his points about outsourcing without throwing a highly suspect claim, meant only to denigrate Senator John Kerry, into his article. I have attempted to find the passage in the Senator's proposed bills from 2003, and thus far have been unsuccessful. Thank you for your attention, I look forward to your reply.

5. Astroturf!
Apparently the bush campaign is dead set on carpeting the entire journalistic landscape with Astroturf. And Sinclair's spurious claim that it's anti-kerry documentary is news is just that much worse.

But a little careful use of google by a fact-checker or researcher can pretty easily expose the scam - so why is the "mainstream" media still falling for it?
