Extreme 92 FM radio in Cleveland is promoting "Stolen Honor" |
|
I wrote them this response. I hope I got my facts right:
Subject: Why is your station promoting a lying right-wing film?
Dear Station Manager,
One of your on-air staff did a segment where she lamented that the anti-Kerry hit piece "Stolen Honor" is not playing in Cleveland. She repeatedly gave out the web address for the hit piece.
The owners of Sinclair Broadcasting are demanding that their dozens of stations and licensees preempt prime time programming to show "Stolen Honor". This has been challenged in a lawsuit as an illegal campaign contribution during the election season. There are Federal Election Commission rules that state that broadcasters cannot show material to influence an election for several months before an election. What Sinclair would do would be considered an "in kind" donation to a political campaign by a corporation and is plainly illegal.
Your staff's assessment that it is "only fair" because Michael Moore had Fahrenheit 9/11 months ago is an absolute distortion. Fahrenheit 9/11 played in theaters and will only be shown on pay-per-view cable channels. Cable tv is not broadcast media. Further, there is no comparing having a pay per view show available to buy with the Sinclair group preempting programming to slam candidate John Kerry.
I am skeptical that your local on-air staff decided to promote "Stolen Honor" on their own. I would not be surprised if this plug for "Stolen Honor" did not come down from executive management at your corporation.
I am not at all happy with what your station did this morning. "Extreme Radio" should not be promoting extreme right-wing politics.

1. I hate Cleveland radio. |

There isn't a decent station in the bunch, and even the college stations are redundant. But Xtreme radio takes the cake in terms of bad radio.

2. I cannot find enough stations to fill up my presets on my car radio |

NPR is on a pledge drive, so I have been tuning around avoiding my former favorite station(s) (WKSU & WCPN). I loved college radio when I move here in the 1980s, but now it is useless.
I have found the CBC at 93.5. It usually comes in.
