"We believe it's important that people hear for themselves these bizarre claims," House Democratic leader Chris Redfern said in a news release.

Walcher told Norwalk police that her phone was tapped, neighbors had been "channeled" to harass her and someone had gotten into her locked apartment and turned on a light, according to a transcript of the tapes, also posted on the Democrats' Web site. Some of the actions had been going on for three years, she said.

When police pressed her about who might be responsible, the 56-year-old legislator answered, "Oh, I can tell you that it's probably the trial lawyers and Democratic Party."

During the same conversation Walcher said: "It's all a game they play. And they have a nice little underground group that runs in it. And I'm surprised you guys aren't already aware of it, although I think some of you probably are. They have a network of people they use for this type of harassment."
