LaRosa's Pulling Ads from WSTR (Cincinnati) |
|
This is pretty major, because LaRosa's is the quintessential family business in a conservative town. The Enquirer reported today in the print edition that they're pulling all advertising from WSTR on the day that "Stolen Honor" is aired. They could have gone further, of course, but I think having a basically conservative business like that make the gesture is pretty important.

The problem is those damned Buddy Cards make LaRosa's so damned cheap its even less expensive than high-end frozen pizza. The problem is that it tastes like it. I love Donato's but it's a premium price.
Anybody eaten at these new CiCi's Pizza Buffets that have sprung up in town? My kids (10 and 6) love it, but I think the food barely rises to the level of putrid.

I happen to like LaRosa's. CiCi's on the other hand can easily be descirbed as putrid.

4. How much do they spend on ads? |
|
Is LaRosa's a major advertiser on that station like Dyer, Garofalo, Mann and Schultz is to WKEF in Dayton?
I agree that it's too bad that they aren't making the pull permanent, but it sends a message, nevertheless.

8. I'd imagine they're a signficant advertiser. |
|
Before Fox went over to the 'dark side' so clearly, I used to watch the one station that's now Sinclair (don't know if it was back then or not), and LaRosa's advertised heavily in Cincinnati and Middletown. Now that there's a LaRosa's in Dayton area (Centerville), I'm sure they've picked up at least some advertising up here.
And y'know, I wasn't surprised at all to hear this. Julius LaRosa might well have been a Republican, wouldn't surprise me in the least -- but I'll bet knowing money from the company he founded all those years ago was going to finance something like this would make him spin in his grave. It doesn't strike me as wise for a company like LaRosa's that's family oriented and generally apolitical to screw itself up by helping finance a nakedly political bit of opportunism like this on Sinclair's part.

Buddy LaRosa is the owner of LaRosa's Restaurants and he is very much alive.
Julius LaRosa is a popular singer from the 1950s.

Didn't think the founder was still around, though. Can't imagine it makes him very happy, regardless.

16. That one had me scratching my head... |
|
I thought that maybe Julius was Buddy's real name.
Did anybody ever see the episode of "Know-It-Alls" the short-lived local quiz show on Cincinnati trivia where Buddy LaRosa went head-to-head with Buddy of Buddy's Carpet Barn? They billed it as "The Battle of the Buddies." Priceless.

14. LaRosas is a huge advertiser in the Greater Cincinnati Area |
|
Though not national or even widely regional, LaRosas has more than 40 restaurants in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky and even a few in Southeast Indiana. Noble Romans could never break into the Cincinnati market. Pizza Hut is hanging on here as well. This is partially because hometown LaRosas is very popular with the natives.
Recently they have done a heavy amount of local advertising for the promation of their addition of 25 new menu items at their restaurants. With that in mind losing LaRosas, even for one day, has an impact. Hopefully Skyline Chili, Gold Star Chili and maybe even Kroger, companies with local ties will follow suit.

I'd like to send them a special email message and thank them for (atleast) pulling their ads on that day.

Thank goodness, because the LaRosa's Lite Topper Pizza is a major staple of my diet, and I was about to give it up.
I'm really surprised... really, really, really pleasantly surprised!!
