From GD:2004 - The UK Guardian's "Operation Clark County"
I'm going to bring this discussion in here, since it involves my hometown and will quickly die in GD:2004. I haven't been online for the past few days, and it was the first thing I saw when I came to DU this morning.

To summarize: The UK Guardian launched a letter-writing campaign to the residents of Clark County, urging voters to vote for Kerry on Nov 2.

WTF? Why Clark County? We were Blue last time, and we'll be Blue this year.

Any thoughts on this? I just find the whole idea to be odd...

1. I think it was a bad idea
I don't think a foreign nation has the right to try to affect our election in this manner. They should write an editorial and leave it at that. I think it could backfire big time.

Still, after reading some of the extremely rude responses the Guardian received from Americans, it makes me realize just how much pure HATE there is simmering in the bowels of some of our citizens.

2. Why Not?
We apparently think we have the right to effect a foreign countrie's elections . . i.e. Iraq. The international community has every to express it's opinion - it's not like they're fraudulently voting in our elections, intimidating voters, or such. We're apparently doing all that ourselves.

I welcome their opinions. If it convinces anyone, great.

3. I have no problem with another country, such as England, home of
our founding fathers, to share their passion about the election. It is common knowledge that the USA is the most powerful nation in the Universe and what we do, and under who tells us what to do will indeed affect the world. Iraqi has affected the world and *bush evoked this global quagmire. *bush lies and maniliputates....and people all over the world die because of his narrow scope of vision and inept greed and arrogance.

Yea, they have a right to to share their passion.....they have scarf iced.

4. I agree the idea is odd

but I signed up for it and sent the most respectful and persuasive letter that I could. The newspaper has received a mass of bile, mainly about our ingratitude and bad dentistry, but some of the first letters should have arrived by now.

Real feedback from recipientswould be interesting
