Defeat Issue One resources
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 07:20 AM by Ms. Toad
I have put together a web page with resource information for anyone fighting against Issue One (Marriage discrimination amendment).

It has a bit of our personal story, as well as a few specific scenarios of things that are the likely result of Issue One. Those are the major differences between my website and other Issue One websites.

In addition, I have lists of prominent opponents (Dem and Republican, organizations, and newspapers), links to organizations working on the amendment (with specific links to some of the resources each offers), and a few action suggestions and talking points.

If you find the website helpful, feel free to pass the link on.

(I will be tinkering with it over the next couple of days - a few links to articles are bad since the articles moved between Sunday and last night, and my opponent list is about four times as large as the list on the website so it needs to be updated - but since time is short I wanted to get it up and out even though it is far from perfect)

2. Thanks.
I've updated it a little and, I hope, made parts of it easier to read.

Sorry Buress has been making your life miserable - but I'm not sure I'm so glad to have been the targetec distraction...

3. Before Buress started this issue one crap
He ran an orgainization called citizens for community values. They pressure the local authorities to close down adult stores, and go into hotels and tape the pay-per-view porn and then send that to local prosecutors too.

They have been somewhat successfull in their tactics, and have managed to put a few stores out of business, and many hotels to stop offering pay-per-view porn.

Not that I'm happy at all he is going after you now. I am very sorry that this ever got on the ballot, and hopefully after this election there will be a petition drive to get a repeal of this on the 2006 ballot. I'll be looking for this and be sure to have copies of the petition at my store for people to sign.

No one is free when anyone is chained.

4. I'll check out your site soon
I was push polled on issue one yesterday.. They asked if I still would vote no even thoguh it was going to ruin Ohio's economy (it's been shown that it will actually help our economy)! Most people don't know this though! If there is a repeal petition I will sign it! Just let me know where it is!

5. Thanks for the support
The big thing people don't know is that there is a second sentence which is a real disaster, and will affect both mixed an same gender couples.

It may also affect property holdings by non-couples (siblings, parent and child, etc.). The Joint with Rights of Survivorship is an extension of a means of titling property that was previously only available to married couples. It is now used to make sure that property goes directly without going through probate. Depending on the court interpretation, that manner of property holding may be tossed for all but married couples.

At the moment my website is having some compatibility issues - it was compatible with Mozilla/Netscape yesterday but not with Internet explorer. I fixed the compatibility with IE, and it is now incompatible with Mozilla/Netscape. If it doesn't open properly on your browser, try a different browser or come back tomorrow morning. I plan to fix it (or beat it into submission some other way) before I crash tonight.

6. Issues with snarky browsers fixed
The website now appears to be functioning with both IE and Netscape/Mozilla browsers. If you see problems (aside from links to newspaper articles that change faster than I can put them up), post a note here or send me a PM.

7. This is just what I was looking for
but we are having a really hard time here in Fairfield County finding anyone with information on yardsigns etc. I've contacted OPCPAC but have not gotten any response. Do you have better contact info than the email link on their website?

The fascists across the street have pointed their idiotic "Protect Marriage" sign right at my house -- GRRRRRR! (I've apparently kissed too many women goodbye on my front porch or something, sheesh!) I'm ready to put my Pro-Family, Pro-Privacy, Pro-Choice sign in my front window out of desperation, but would much rather have a kickass Family Values means Valuing All Families sign instead!

We need to mobilize on this one and QUICKLY!!! If you have other resources or contact info, please PM me, or list it here! THANKS!

8. Check your e-mail
I couldn't PM you so I sent an e-mail via your DU profile (which should reach you - but doesn't let me see where it is going so I can't follow up with files and things). If you don't get the e-mail, send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll be in touch later this evening.

The Resources frame, ACLU link has a good .pdf flyer that can be downloaded for distribution.

The statement of our faith community has been helpful with people for whom religion is a barrier to same gender marriages. Feel to print and distribute that, as well. We tried to get it published as a letter to the editor, but no luck. Our alternative was to send it wherever we could think of.

Glad you like the banner. I've been trying to take back the phrase "family values" for years - and was quite surprised to hear John Kerry use essentially the same phrase at the convention. That's ok, he can borrow. The .jpg banner is designed to be bumper sticker size, but I can make a bigger one if you send your e-mail address to me.

I don't know how much time you had to play with the links, but wherever I could I linked to the editorial, statement of the organization, or statement of the individual so all that is available as well. (Where I couldn't find the original or link to it, the link is to the source of my information about the party's opposition.)
