Fingerhut is not running for Senate.
He's running for Governor. I think that he took on Voinovich knowing that he would probably lose. He's trying to get name recognition for a run at the Governor's Mansion against Petro, Montgomery, or Blackwell in 2006. The Republican nominee will be either Petro or Blackwell, most likely. I have no idea who could possibly take on Fingerhut for the Democratic nomination.

1. In the debate he sure talked like he was running for Governor
His messages seemed to be about Ohio: jobs, education, pollution.

3. He's running for SENATE!
I know this seems strange, but the guy is actually running for the job he's running for! Wow! What a different concept!

The debate issues, and the whole theme of this campaign is exactly what it should be - Ohio is headed in the wrong direction. Our United States Senators are not helping Ohio. They are not crafting policies on a national level that will help us at home. They are not even paying attention to the issues of this state. Eric has been in the state Senate for 6 years (plus 2 years in the early 90s). He understands these issues better than anyone. Would he be a great Governor? Sure. Will he be an even better Senator? Oh my God, YES! This guy can effect changes nationwide, not just in our state. Before you all start assuming you know "the real reason" why he's running, take a minute to think that maybe he's the first person in a decade who actually is focused on what he says he is.

He wants THIS job. Period.
Let's get him over the top!

4. I could be wrong.
I'm a cynic at heart. I'd rather see a win now, but will accept one later if I have to.

7. Actually, he IS running for Senator.
I believe this campaign against Voinovich is groundwork for a run against DeWine in 2006.

9. I know what you're saying ...
but I think he's just running. If he wins this time, great -- if not, I have no doubt you're right that he'll keep going. I hope if he doesn't get over the wall this time, he keeps at it -- I really like the guy.
