All NE Ohio Du'ers please read |
|
Please read the article at the link provided. Scroll down to about the 4th paragraph from the end and read about the Cleveland Plain Dealer endorsement controversy. We should all write letters to the editor PRIOR to any endorsement. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000683265

1. Wow! Thanks for posting |
|
this. I knew something had to be up when the Plain Dealer didn't have an endorsement today, and I figured it was the same problem as in 2000 when most of the editorial board wanted Gore and Machaskee insisted on Bush. And, since he had final say (as they said in this article), Shrubbie it was.
This is a fairly liberal area, and this is one of the most crucial areas in the most crucial battleground state, so I'm sure there'd be a huge uproar against the Pee Dee if it actually went for Smirk. How ridiculous that a nine-member board can be trumped by one person. What's the fucking point of having an editorial board if that's the case????

Here are the two paragraphs regarding the PD. I'll be waiting to see how this shakes out. So will a lot of other Greater Cleveland Dems. ______________ Meanwhile, E&P has learned from several sources at the Plain Dealer in Cleveland that the paper's nine-person editorial board decided earlier this week that it wanted to endorse Kerry, but Publisher Alex Machaskee, who has final say, has decided on Bush. The paper backed Bush in 2000.
This has caused consternation in some quarters at the Plain Dealer, with sources telling E&P that the endorsement editorial, which was expected to run Sunday, was put off. One editor told E&P that some at the paper at pushing for, at least, a dissenting pro-Kerry column. ______________

3. Temper your comments to the PD's email account |
|
Now that the PD has held off on printing any endorsement, the Cle activist community is advising that people be diplomatic about this. I am not going to write anything to the PD.

4. I think temper means non-inflamatory. |
|
To write no letters to the editor is as much of a risk as a "tempered" letter to the editor.
There are 7 more editions after today in which the PD can slip in a Bush endorsement.
Perhaps they might, if Kerry support is too quiet.

5. Too late for that on this end... |

Not only was an "ill-tempered" LTE already fired off to the PD, our Sunday only subscription has been terminated. We had gone Sunday only after their 2000 endorsements ditto the "News" Herald which has endorsed Adulterer/BOOR Steve LaTourette after their many articles/editorials about President Clinton's behavior which was no match for LaTourette's "ethical" behavior according to his right-wing cronies in the House.

6. I concur with the Latourette/Clinton comparison |
|
Leavin' Steven has no business crying foul about the Dems bringing up his infidelity. Steven voted to impeach Clinton.

7. Did you see the snipet of a tape that the local CBS affiliate |
|
ran last week of "Leavin' Steven" (cracked me up) and his honey..???The "reporter" made a major fuss about the tape and its origin yet zilch about their tawdry affair and the unforgivable manner that Leavin' Steven finally came clean to his devoted wife. Turned out that the "lobbyist" also turned out to be his former chief of staff. I will refrain from the obvious pun here. I am surprised that Capri has not him him hard as his only reply is that his cronies-in-power say that "he did nothing wrong" and that there was "nothing unethical" about their affair.

They just ran about a minute at most showing him coming out of the house and then showed her getting into her? car. The rest was all about the bombastic "reporter" whining about "dirty tricks." This all happened after that negative ad trying to attach Capri to Traficant's hip...Go figure...
on edit...thanks for the link..

12. Yeah, don't you love it that |
|
he and his fellow repukes constantly chant their mantra of "personal responsiblity" yet, when it's one of THEM, it's always the Dems or someone else's fault? Like Leavin Steven blaming Dems for the tape, well, EXCUSE ME, who was the one screwing around on his wife and treating her abominably? Was it the Dems and the person who made the tape? Pardon the pun, but I don't fucking think so.
And did those of you in Lake County (I'm in Painesville) notice that the repuke-boot-licking News-Herald didn't have ONE SINGLE WORD about LaTourette's little honey being a lobbyist who lobbies his committees, and from whom he's accepted gifts in a political capacity, and also being his former chief of staff, when the Plain Dealer has had several articles about it?
