U. S. Rep. Bob New, R-Ohio, has made the following prediction regarding next week's election - there will be a multitude of court actions stemming from his Help America Vote Act legislation.
The new election laws, he said, were crafted to "make it easier to vote, but harder to cheat."
"We may have a clear winner (in the presidential race), but we will see a ton of lawsuits after the election," Ney said. "However, the Help America Vote Act - as I wrote it - has thus far been held up in different court decisions 6-0."
He added that HAVA does "much more to modernize the election process" than requiring new technology for voter registration and eliminating punch card voting machines in 2006.

He added that HAVA also requires that the voter registration roles throughout the country be merged together by computer by 2006.
"If you vote in West Virginia and try to vote again in Ohio, we are going to catch you," Ney said.
He also predicts that Ohio and Florida will decide the 2004 presidential election.
"Hopefully, there will not be a 500-vote difference this time" as was the case in Florida in 2000, Ney said. "Hopefully there will be a mandate that will stand up in court."
