OHIO DUers: WHO'S READY TO TAKE BACK OUR STATE IN 2006!??! |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 10:19 PM by NEOBuckeye
I AM. Who else is with me?
Let's organize. I've got a plan. Let's do this. Ken Blackwell is already prepping his inauguration speech for governor. I'd like to make him eat it.

I am dog tired after a 14 hour work day yesterday and staying up too. Backwell is so stupid - The repugs whose ass he has been kissing all these years will never let a black person be their governor.

4. Mayor Mike Coleman's ready to lead the charge |
|
The popular Black mayor of Columbus has a well-oiled, nimble political machine...which helped sweep the Franklin Co Commissioner's races last night.
I believe he'll be announcing for governor next year.

6. I think Fingerhut and Coleman are fantastic candidates |

to lead the charge to take Ohio back. I've had the pleasure of hearing both of them speak in person. Great people.
Since John Glenn retired, the Ohio Democratic party has seemingly been more wimpy than the DNC.
I think Ohioans are fed up. We need to get our message out there, and quick.

I just posted this on another thread as well. We've got some serious fights coming up in the State Legislature next year. Let's focus on those along with the 06 races. The more we keep talking and sharing ideas, the better. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FingerhutForOhio/

10. How old do you have to be to run for state legislature? |
|
I'll be 22 by the time the next election rolls around, so either then or when I'm able, I'll throw my hat in the ring.

I'm pretty sure there have been one or two college kids who have run for the state legislature.
Go for it!

That would be lack of money. Couple that with Voinvich's 8 million and you saw a ton of his commercials.

Pls count me in; I am trying to determine the best course, also. I am sick of explaining to friends how hard we worked, how many doors, how many voted for Kerry, and how we need to start now to plan for next time.

After last week, I'm pissed off and ready to do what I can.
One thing that I think would do a lot of good is having a strong challenger in every house district -- force the Repugs to defend their seats, so they don't have as much free time to fundraise for their candidates in other races. As someone pointed out in another thread in the Ohio forum, Ben Konop here in 4th District only lost by 18% (much lower than previous races) and won in Allen Co. by 2,000 votes -- and forced Oxley to outspend him 15 to 1 in the process.
We also need to learn how to communicate our message better to rural voters without heavily compromising on our stands -- "Repuglican Lite" is not a winning strategy.
Unfortunately, I think a lot evangelical Christian conservatives (AKA fundies) are probably not going to be interested in coming over to our side no matter how we frame our message. I know a few of these people and it seems like most of them (that I know, at least) only care about abortion and gay marriage. You can talk to them all you want about (for example) poverty, and they'll say they agree something needs to be done about it -- but it should be done through the church, not forced by the government. I'm sure that isn't true of all of them, but it accurately describes all the ones I know around here...
And yes, I'd like to see Blackwell eat that speech. :)
