So... who's for secession? |
|
We can deport the bigots, you know. Make our own little progressive utopia between the Beautiful River and the North Coast.

1. I got locked for opening |

a discussion of the secession of the Atlantic Coast yesterday.
I had left Ohio out, but let's talk.

3. My argument was, not very obviously, internationalist. |

It essentially was to secede from the US and join Europe. (Not Canada.) Not to create a liberal utopia, but groping to find a path to bring the US into a world community, with the feeling that as it stands, the US is so big and powerful that it is inevitably imperialist and a threat to other countries.
I think it deserves serious consideration. It would, of course, be a VERY long term project -- especially since I would advocate enough caution to avoid civil war! -- but I would welcome a discussion of other ways to accomplish the ultimate end: reconciliation of the US with, and its entry into, a worldwide political community of democratic nations.

4. No Way. I'd go to war to prevent it. |
