Maybe we SHOULD protest, demand a recount, or something...
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 06:12 PM by AngryOldDem
Up until now I've been skeptical of all the calls to protest the results and demand a recount. After coming across this on Latest Breaking News, however, I've changed my mind.

In a nutshell: Warren County, citing "terrorism," locked down its county administration building on election night, and allowed no one to witness the counting of the votes.

This was not covered in the Dayton media.

2. Call Ron Leibau local news editor
Ron is a local news editor and is always involved in election coverage. The Enquirer needs to redeem itself after the Chiquita debacle. DUer help needed. How do we research this? Lizzieforkerry says 27% for Kerry from Warren can't be right because they had great GOTV for kerry in Warren. How do we determine Warren voting age population? How do we determine how many votes were cast?

Warren's vote tally walled off
Alone in Ohio, officials cited homeland security

By Erica Solvig
Enquirer staff writer

LEBANON - Citing concerns about potential terrorism, Warren County officials locked down the county administration building on election night and blocked anyone from observing the vote count as the nation awaited Ohio's returns.

County officials say they took the action Tuesday night for homeland security, although state elections officials said they didn't know of any other Ohio county that closed off its elections board. Media organizations protested, saying it violated the law and the public's rights. The Warren results, delayed for hours because of long lines that extended voting past the scheduled close of polls, were part of the last tallies that helped clinch President Bush's re-election.

"The media should have been permitted into the area where there was counting," Enquirer attorney Jack Greiner said. "This is a process that should be done in complete transparency and it wasn't."

Warren County Emergency Services Director Frank Young said he had recommended increased security based on information received from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in recent weeks. Commissioners made the security decisions in a closed-door meeting last week, but didn't publicize the restrictions that were made until after polls closed.

Lizzie is right.

Bush -- 66,523
72.11%

Kerry -- 25,399
27.53%

Results from Issue 1 are similar:

Yes -- 62,050
69.46%

No -- 27,288
30.54%

I don't know how to determine voter demographics.

According to the site, there are 125,165 registered voters; 93,321 votes were cast Tuesday.

I don't recall seeing Dems being close in ANY race down there. The numbers all look the same.

ON EDIT: Fix spacing between numbers

4. Call Ron Leibau and Dan Sewell at the Enquirer
The newspapers are the only ones with the resources.

barring press is something newspapers sue over. just do it.

then contact Dayton Daily News, Plain Dealer, Toledo Blade and especially Knight Ridder.

I cannot do this myself I am an insider

9. Yes.
Definitely try the Toledo Blade... they're generally pretty sympathetic to our side of the political fence.

You might also try getting in touch with Eric Alterman since he runs a great daily liberal blog on MSNBC, and often picks up stuff like this. A little national attention never hurt.

7. There has to be at least 25,000 "lost" votes for Kerry
How many other places have we already found out:

about 4,000 in the suburbs of Columbus....
many more that we do not know about.

add to that, how many people left the polls because of 2 - 6 hour waits?

Kerry would have won Ohio if we had a fair election. No doubt in my mind.

Then there is Fla. which we have no idea what the real count is because of the damn black box voting.

We got screwed.
