In Minnesota, no one I asked had to wait in line for more than an hour, |
|
approxmately: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=160&topic_id=4073#4146I've read that some people in Ohio had to wait ten hours to vote, and I hope activists in Ohio will treat this as a civil rights issue and get the same number of polling-booths-per-citizen by 2006.

It is so outragous that some voters(in dem areas only of course) had to wait that long.
Presidential elections are not new to this country. There is no excuse.
The rightwing will no doubt seek to expand this into other democratic areas in swing states as a tactic to win.
We can't tolerate some people being second class voters.

2. I hope the trend for 2006 will be more polling booths. |
|
It didn't occur to me until I read your post that the Republicans will try to decrease polling booths in Democratic areas even more.
Can you contact the OHIO ACLU and ask them to seek an injunction for more polling booths in 2006?

4. Well, it's not QUITE just dem areas only |
|
I showed up at 7 AM, waited till 8:30, was still about an hour away from voting and had to go to work. Showed back up at 5:15, waited almost 2 hours, voted around 7.
And I live in a pretty lily-white suburb of Cleveland - in Lake County (OH-14), that went big for Steve LaTourette.

3. I wonderd about long lines too |
|
My little town in Wisconsin has at least 3 polling places all with several booths. As a result, we walked right in. I don't understand why some places over ten times our size have fewer voting booths, it just doesn't make sense.

5. It was down in Gallia County. |

Students from Kenyon College waited for 6-8 hours to vote. Some of their professors brought them pizza and soft drinks while they stood in line. They played cards and board games.
The last person to vote in Ohio was such a student; it was 1:30 am.
I wish I could find the link -- I'm still looking.
