The Giant Jesus of I-75 - Super Savior!!

http://www.channelcincinnati.com/news/3950572/detail.html

I AM SO LUCKY, because I only live about 10 miles from this lovely work of art! I get to see it just about every day on my I-75 trek.

The Giant Jesus of I-75 cost a mere $250,000 to erect, with the full support of The Solid Rock Church in Monroe. Guess that money wouldn't have been better spent... ummm... I dunno... feeding the hungry?

Has anyone else witnessed this... ummm... truly ugly statue? I mean, if it were a little more lifelike, or tasteful, maybe it would bother me less... :-)

14. A Meteor is kinda small...
I'd use at least a Buick Electra 225, maybe a '64 Lincoln Continental - and make sure.

It's just like, like ya know, kinda :puke:

8. Well, we still have a "Pizza Tower" here in Cincinnati.
Can't find any photos, but yeh, it's a big-ass Leaning Tower of Pizza.

Rumor has it that Football Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz (Bengals) once owned it. :D

20. Yep...
Munoz lives here in Mason, OH. The restaurant is off of exit 19 on I-71. Munoz is one of those ultra-conservative catholic types that resemble born again repukes. My understanding is he does not own it anymore.

9. So much for the commandment against idolotry.
2nd commandment:
"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me. And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."

:eyes:

This is the argument I will use when my freeper relatives from Ohio start in on me again.

16. It was on MSNBC Friday afternoon
In fact, I getting ready to post the same when I saw this thread.

The anchors got a chuckle out of it.

The only saving grace (no pun intended, well, yes, pun intended) was they got the interstate wrong. They said it was on I-95. So -- East Coast corridor, get ready for a huge influx of Fundie traffic, and be prepared to explain just what you've done with that "missing" Big Honkin' Jesus!

BTW...I wonder what the mosque just down the road thinks of this.

Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 11:17 AM by Philostopher
The Mr. and I were theorizing what kind of birdseed you'd have to shoot onto it from a cannon across the road to result in its becoming covered in a layer of goose shit. There's lotsa' Canada geese in the I-75 corridor, and anybody who has to deal with them knows they poop a turd about the size of a small house cat's, and it's green.

I think their graven image of Jesus would look really nice with goose poop running down out of its eyes like tears, but I can't imagine you could get the birdseed on it that precisely without actually going there, and I imagine they've got hella security on it.

Yeah, that drive up I-75 from Cinci is boring. We have to do something to keep ourselves entertained, since there's not much to listen to on the radio!

I drive up to the gun show in Dayton. I'm sure many of my fellow gun-show attendees like it, but I just think it's hysterical. It's so gaudy and over-the-top. I don't know why they couldn't settle for the "traditional" giant interstate cross. :)

25. Thanks for the info! I couldn't figure out why
anyone would put up this giant statue of Kenny Rogers sinking in quicksand. Especially one seemingly made out of -- oleomargarine, or Crisco, or whatever it is. Polyunsaturated Ghee, maybe. . . . It sure is a hoot to drive past, though.

(BTW, this is my first DU post. What the heck, I had to start somewhere!)

who need assistance (are pregnant? I can't remember the conversation was in July....)

I have of it

Isn't there a commandment -- "thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image"

Oh yes -- here is some info....

" Although the Ten Commandments are held in high respect by many Christians, two of them are routinely broken by some Christian denominations -- at least if they are interpreted literally:

The prohibition against "any graven image, or any likeness of any thing...," if interpreted literally, would seem to forbid a wide range of objects, including a statue in a church, a cross, a crucifix, or even to a photograph of a person. However, many denominations do not interpret this passage in isolation or do not interpret it literally. This allows Eastern Orthodox churches to display icons, Roman Catholic churches to contains statues, and many Protestant churches to contain drawings and/or photographs."
