2. Think I remember when he was running for Senator they were saying that
he was doing it for the name recognition and all that so he could run for governor.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Democrats campaigning in Ohio should take a page from a centrist Democratic group's most successful member as they take on the Republicans in next year's statewide elections, state Sen. Eric Fingerhut says.

Fingerhut, who lost a race for U.S. Senate to Republican George Voinovich last year, said Tuesday that simply hammering Republicans who have controlled state government since 1994 won't do the job. He spoke after the Democratic Leadership Council announced a July convention would be in Columbus.

"It's not going to be enough to say the Republicans have mishandled the Ohio economy, which they have, but also to say to voters here is what we'd do differently," Fingerhut said. "If you look back to 1992, it's exactly what Bill Clinton and Al Gore did that year."

The council is the group that Clinton used as a springboard to the presidency. The convention is expected to be attended by hundreds of state and local officeholders. The group met in Cleveland in 1991 when Clinton was its chairman...

OMG he is terrific! A cross between John Edwards and John/Bobby Kennedy! A must see speaker ....Go to the Statehouse sometime and watch him do his magic! Sensational. A great gift to Ohio Democrats!

House Republicans reject Democratic plan to protect police, provide middle-class tax relief

House Democratic Leader Chris Redfern expressed disappointment today that Republicans declined to act Tuesday on 31 different Democratic budget proposals, including a plan to deliver more tax relief to middle-class Ohioans while protecting police and firefighters by eliminating cuts to local governments.

Rep. Chris Redfern, D-Catawba Island, was sworn in as Ohio House Democratic Leader on Jan. 6, 2003. Redfern, 40, has served in the Ohio House since he was appointed state representative in early September 1999.



As a state lawmaker, Redfern has championed the cause of fiscal discipline in state budgeting and consistently urged lawmakers to reform the state’s tax code so all Ohioans are treated fairly.



Rep. Redfern also has pushed for legislation protecting Lake Erie, Ohio’s greatest natural resource and a popular tourist destination in his the 80th House District, which includes all of Erie County and most of Ottawa County. Among Rep. Redfern’s bills is a proposal to ban oil and natural gas drilling beneath Ohio’s portion of Lake Erie.



In 2003, Redfern was recognized with the Myrl H. Shoemaker Award, presented annually to a member of the Ohio Democratic Party for excellence in public service throughout the state.



Before his appointment to the Statehouse, Rep. Redfern served as Ottawa County Commissioner. When he was first took office in 1993, he was the youngest county commissioner in the state and the youngest ever in Ottawa County’s history.



During his tenure as county commissioner, Redfern focused on expanding the county’s public infrastructure, improving county services and strengthening local economic development.



Rep. Redfern is a 1983 graduate of Port Clinton High School. He also holds both a bachelor degree in political science and a master degree in state and local government from Bowling Green State University, which has recognized him with its Accomplished Graduate Award.



Rep. Redfern lives in Catawba Island Township with his wife Roberta.

He's a good candidate, but, without lots of bucks and name recognition, he's not ready yet.

5. Minority Leader of the House
is nothing to sneeze about. If the Democrats were the majority...he would have John Housted 's position. He comes from a financially prominate district too. He has all the right stuff.
