We NEED a Senate candidate now!!!
Alright, 2006 is going to be a huge midterm election, and the Democrats need to have all their starters in and get ready to attack from every angle.
For the Ohio Governors race, we have two outstanding Democratic candidates in Strickland and Coleman. But for the Senate?
DeWine is on shaky ground. He knows that Ohio is full of modern Rockefeller Republicans who are getting more and more weary of the right's agenda. There are also a lot of colleges in Ohio, and the youth vote is the most liberal leaning demographic now. So DeWine knows that he can't be Frist's best friend unless he wants every single bitter, pissed off workers from the 2004 campaign who worked their asses off and came so close to just take out all their hostility on him. However, he also knows that the only reason Bush won was because of the far-right conservatives. So he has to play a very delicate balancing act. Honestly, I think the Fundamentalist Right is power hungry enough to challenge him from the right.
If that happens, DeWine's campaign will either be severely wounded from a bitter primary or some angry right winger will be the Repub nominee. And the, with the right candidate, we will win the election.

I personally think Sherrod Brown is the perfect candidate for this. here is his contact info:

In anycase, I'm getting really sick of us dragging our feet on this. I've emailed Brown, the DNC and Schummer telling them to get on this. We can win this seat, if we put some goddamn effort into it.

1. I was wondering about this myself......
All the signs I've seen are Dewine's. There is another one I've seen but I can't remember his name.....he's another repuke. No Democrat signs to be seen. No wonder we can't be the majority. :grr:

2. I love my Rep., Sherrod Brown but
how is his name recognition downstate?

Your right, somebody must come out soon and announce for Senate.

3. I don't think Brown will run
I would love to see Sherrod Brown run for Senator and I agree with you completely that he is the perfect candidate. However, he already said he will not run for Governor or Senator. Just my guess, but I think he wants to wait until 2010 to run for Senator.

I sent him an email before he announced he wasn't running and I would be the first volunteer in line, if he changes his mind. Maybe when he sees how desperate we are for a good candidate he'll reconsider.

4. I like Brown but...
I hate to see us lose Strickland and Brown in the House. I'm thinking the competition might come from Jerry.

7. I'd consider voting Republican
I could never really vote for DeWine, but I don't think much of Redfern. It would be another situation where I would vote for a candidate for lack of a better choice, but I would give my money or my time.

8. Have you been to the Statehouse?
Edited on Sun Jun-05-05 08:55 AM by liberalnurse
I encourage you to go and sit in on a Committee Hearing, watch the action in the "well" of the House or Senate.....One needs to do a little homework on issues of the day but you will see how Redfern rallys the votes on issues. He is admirable and a dynamic leader! He also goes on tour to Ohio Townhall Meetings...I encourage you to attend one or two.

I don't know if he will run or not, I just recommend him.

9. I've met him several time
First, I'll assume that when you say "one needs to do a little homework" you are speaking in general, not to me specifically. I keep myself informed about Ohio politics.

I've met him several times and I don't think much of him. I would still vote for him regardless of how I feel about him personally, but I wouldn't actively help him.

I think that he definitely will run for statewide office. I'm not sure if it will be this election cycle or next, but sometime soon.

10. Redfern voted for the Lake Erie Shoreline bill
HB 218 (now HB 208) was Tim Grendell's monster that he used to milk $$$ from wealty shoreline landowners. It would give ownership of the shoreline from the state to the beachfront landowners. Redfern voted for the bill. He owns shoreline property and he should have recused himself. Other than HB 218, Ohio environmentalists regard him well.

6. It's Getting Late! Where's Our Senate Candidate, Denny?
Hi all! I posted on a dead thread - please read my rant about the missing Dem Candidate for US Senate here:

How about Tim Ryan, currently in the US House of Representatives?

Remember this speech?

I think SOMEBODY better get out there and soon!
DeWine is on the hot seat from the Regressive Right.

We CAN win this seat! Where's the DSCC? How come Dean has not returned to the Scene of the 2004 Election Crime yet?
:banghead:

In the famous words of Senator Blutarsky, "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? HELL NO!!!"

11. Grow Ohio from the Ground Up
For those interested, here's a campaign position for an effort launching this month in Ohio. The person will be based in Ohio, direct website/blog content, and travel throughout the state doing netroots-grassroots organizing for a Democratic Rep's statewide presence. Interested applicants should have experience with blogging/internet-based campaigns and be able to re-locate immediately (wanting to work 24/7 at the political ground zero for 2006 is also a plus, so is an Ohio connection). Send your resume or letter of application to campaign@netroots.com

Know of anyone who is interested?
