In a nutshell…

In 1996 I worked in CA, WY and SD. The state of Ohio ASSUMED (their words) that I worked in Ohio and did not file a State Income Tax Return. I’ve provided them with all evidence of tax filings (CA non-resident) and Federal. They have penalized me for not filing, they’ve put a lien on me, they’ve kept my federal and state income tax returns. Their reasons are…I didn’t file in 1996 and then I filed in 2001. Here’s the kicker… After yrs. of fighting this cause, I was provided with a
copy of my filing a 1996 tax return in 2001. TOTALLY FALSIFYED!!! They took my 1996 CA tax return and copied it onto an Ohio 1996 tax return claiming I did it. I DID NOT! There is no signature on the tax return because I did NOT file it.

Where do I turn? A tax lawyer would be costly right?!?!? Do I have a case to sue them for falsifying records to obtain monies from me?!?!? Many more details in case you are interested.
