Schmidt scandal in Enquirer today, thank you Howard Wilinson!
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050801/NEWS01/508010350

The truce between the candidates ended once they left the church Sunday morning.

A few hours later, Hackett was standing in front of TV cameras at the Hamilton County Courthouse downtown, refuting Schmidt's statement on Channel 12's "Newsmakers" program that she had "never met" and "wouldn't recognize" Thomas Noe, the Republican campaign contributor at the heart of the state GOP's Coingate' scandal.

Hackett produced minutes of a March 2002 Ohio Board of Regents meeting that indicates that then-state representative Schmidt had met with the regents, whose membership at the time included Noe.

"She seems to have a very selective memory," Hackett said.

When reporters asked for copies of the minutes, Hackett and an aide raced two blocks down Court Street to his law office in the Kroger building to run off copies.

1. Would like two things from Ohio DUers: Verification Schmidt did make the
statement that 'vets weren't qualified to hold public office'.

If it is verified she did make that comment, I would love to see her dogged at every public appearance with one question: Did you support Bill Clinton's candidacy in 92 and 96, since both times, he was opposed by a veteran and you don't think veterans are qualified for public office?

If she wins after that kind of exposure, it will be indication of election fraud in Ohio.

2. I hope she gets beat so badly in the polls...
she really does deserve to lose.

3. as an out of stater
I've read only that this is a really, really red district.

If Hackett loses a close race, say 52-48, does that make it an almost pyrrhic victory for the Republicans since it's normally almost guaranteed?

4. Delete the "almost" qualifiers, and you've got it.
That's why they're pumping hundreds of thous behind this nut-bag. This district is gerrymandered to guarantee a Repug victory, so if they lose it, or come even remotely close, it's both a sign of the worm turning and of the power of internet organization.
