Not all Scioto Countians share same beliefs

Not all Scioto Countians
share same beliefs

Over the past few months, I’ve read letters and editorials about how Jean Schmidt and the Republican party represented the conservative values, will and the desires of Scioto County.

That misconception trumpeted by the Republicans was buried by the people of Scioto, Adams, Brown and Pike counties on Aug. 2. Schmidt may have won, but just barely, and then only because she won in the Cincinnati area. Paul Hackett won handily in all the rural areas, with almost twice as many Scioto County voters voting for him over Schmidt.
Why should Schmidt do anything to help our counties? This election has shown her that to stay in office she only has to cater to the Cincinnati area of her district, so you can expect that will be where her attentions and energies will lie. Schmidt will continue pushing the Bush agenda to export our jobs overseas while importing goods, rather than the other way around. Republicans get to celebrate the victory of their candidate, but they can never again claim that their candidate represents the beliefs, will and desire of the majority of Portsmouth and Scioto County. Unfortunately, because of the redrawing of the districts a while back, we no longer have the representation we the people of the rural areas of the 2nd District want and need in Washington, D.C.

*** Note: This letter again stresses why I also believe that redistricting must be a top priority if the Dems gain control in Columbus!
