I'm Not from Ohio, But I Sure Do Admire Paul Hackett. |
|
First, I love Ohio and first hitched hiked through the state when I was 19 on my way to New York from Los Angeles. Just the labor alone history in Ohio deserves great respect.
I followed your special election so closely where Paul Hackett turned conventional wisdom upon its head by nearly winning in such a die-hard Republican congressional district. Election night had me banging my keyboards here in California to refreshen the voting results every minute. Paul's loss was very disappointing as I know how hard he and his team worked.
Most of all, I was just so damned proud of this young man who dared to speak out against the President when so many of our very own Democrats in national office were tip toeing in fear of the White House. Paul Hackett won my heart and my respect.
Without criticizing Sherrod Brown for wanting to run for the U.S. Senate, I certainly feel I can say that the way that he decided to enter and let Paul Hackett get up and running for that seat was...well, it really lacked class and could even be seen as very petty and mean.
I don't know what will happen there now and it isn't my business. But I really want you all there to know that I think that Paul Hackett is just OK by me.

I'm transplanted to NYC, so I don't vote in OH. I'm not sure about Hackett, in state campaign he did not dissociate from war, just took Kerry line that Bush was conducting the war wrong. As progressive, that is not what I want to hear. THE WAR IS WRONG-- END IT NOW. Or is Hackett taking the political prudent line, just to get elected? Need insight from you Ohioans here.
OT -- I'm looking for a progressive (real estate) lawyer in Lancaster area. I'm proposing a financial movement that DU start a movement to ID progressive business leaders in various districts so we can support them. I'm not giving any more $$ to my previous repugnicant law firm. If you know of atty, post it here, I don't receive email.
