I got this media advisory about an event on Monday:
WHO: Congressman Ted Strickland, Candidate for Ohio Governor; Congressman Sherrod Brown, Candidate for U.S. Senate; Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones; Judge Jennifer Brunner, Candidate for Ohio Secretary of State; and other religious and political leaders
WHAT: Speak out on behalf of the Higher Ground Promise
WHEN: Monday, October 24, 2005 at 11:00 AM
WHERE: Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland Transfiguration Episcopal Church 8614 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44106
I checked out the Higher Promise website:
"Higher Ground Promise is a public awareness campaign to help people of faith call on our national leaders to seek “higher ground” – a place of well being where the common good of all is the highest priority.
Americans were shocked and dismayed when hurricane Katrina revealed a nation unable to provide for its citizens and the poverty and inequality exposed in the hurricane’s wake. Our conscience and faith call us to build a society where all are cared for and where no one is left behind. We also hope to help people find a community through which to continue to advocate for our elected officials to seek the moral high ground. Be sure to visit our “get connected” page and sign the Higher Ground Promise. Together we can reach higher ground! The organizations that helped to create Highergroundpromise.org are:
Catholic Alliance for the Common Good Faithful America Faith and Public Life Resource Center National Council of Churches Protestants for the Common Good
The Higher Ground Promise:
As people of faith, we promise to raise a united voice for compassion and justice and hold our elected officials accountable for how their decisions impact on the children, elderly, disabled and the poor. Similarly, we also promise to do our part by working through our places of worship and community organizations to assist those in need. As people of faith, we call upon our elected leaders to do their part by passing a moral budget that truly reflects justice and compassion--one that will not keep America down, but will move our nation to the higher ground that we seek, ensuring safety and well-being for all Americans for generations to come." info@highergroundpromise.org
