Hypothetical scenario in the Senate race

let's say Specter pulls off a narrow primary victory. This is probably best case scenario for Kerry since the irritated Toomey supporters might stay home. Specter suffers from this, and the fact he's spent most of his cash in the primary, but due to his popularity beats Hoeffel, but only narrowly, with Hoeffel coming a lot closer than anyone expected. Would this put Hoeffel in a good position to take on Santorum in 2006? I think the best case here might be to have Specter win and hurt * in Pennsylvania, and then have Hoeffel take out Santorum in 2006. After all in 2000 from what I've heard Santorum had a very weak opponent, and I doubt people weren't aware of just how crazy he was then.

1. Thats true, (I didn't know how freaking crazy he was either)

I can't really remember, but I might have voted for him in 2000. Back then I was a registered independent. I really don't remember though.

Now I think he will be voted out next time. No matter what, people around here don't like to hear about dog on dog.

2. Santorum is done

Barb Hafer is already taking him down in 2006. His opponent in 2000, Ron Klink, go absolutely no donations from Dems and even then it was closer than people think. Santorum has his big money donations but if we actually throw some support behind the Dem. nominee, he's toast.

4. Hafer would be a formidable challenge to Santorum, but

she has run her share of terrible campaigns. Her loss in the 1990 gubernatorial election was a record-breaking landslide. She started running for Governor again in 2002, but gave up after garnering little support.

There are also many people in the Democratic party who have reason to hold a grudge against her, as she has campainged agianst many Democrats when she was a Republican. Will these people simply forgive and forget?

7. Hafer v. Santorum

Yippee! I just said to myself I'd vote for her against any of the conservative Democrats we usually get for candidates even though she's a Republican, and then I remembered she converted. She IS a Democrat.

3. I recently had the pleasure to hear Hoeffel speak

He's magnificent. He may actually be able to beat Specter. Sounds optimistic, but he's not out wasting his money bashing an opponent into the ground. If Toomey manages to win the primary, Hoeffel will destroy him in the fall. Toomey will be low on funds, weak on issues, and downright creepy. Hoeffel will cruise to victory against him.

6. The same things were said about Toomey in 1998

He then went on to defeat a long-serving State Senator by a decisive margin for the Lehigh Valley's congressional seat. this guy should not be underestimated.
