Attention Pittsburgh DUers! |
|
There is a "march for marriage" taking place in Greensburg, PA this upcoming sunday (the 25th) at the courthouse in the afternoon. This is nothing more than anti-gay marriage hysteria.
Please drop me a PM or an email if you are interested in protesting these right-wing bigots. Nothing official going on yet, we're (my friends from school and myself) trying to organize still, so let me know!

But I'll be preparing for law school exams (I'm doing my take-home Conflicts exam the next day). Have fun - hope you have a good turnout.

Western Pennsylvania is Democratic, but Conservative Democratic. These are people who are Democratic for ECONOMIC REASONS (PRO-UNION, PRO-New DEAL, PRO SOCIAL SECURITY) NOT Social Reasons (THEY ALSO OPPOSE ABORTION and Gay Marriage).
The "March For Marriage" is part of the GOP strategy to divide these Democrats from Kerry and thus gaining their votes for Bush. By protesting them you are saying to these Conservative Democrats that the GOP is telling the Truth when it comes to Gay Marriage, something most of them oppose.
Thus if you want to play into the GOP's hands go ahead, I am not stopping you for I oppose Gay Marriage. I also know that by you showing up opposing the "March for Marriage" will only strengthen the movement against Gay marriage (Through at the same time strengthen the GOP which is why my first choice would be for you to avoid adding attention to the march).
Politics is the art of trying to get 50% of the Voters to Vote for you, do NOT give people a reason to Vote for the other fellow. No Democrat will offer a law banning gay marriage (They may vote for such a law, but if the Democrats control the Congress such a law will NEVER see the light of Day). The Democrats want to address the Economic Issues of today like in 1992 "Its the ECONOMY" should be out motto and ANYTHING that varies from that Motto has to go to the wayside.

conservative dems do exist...they're in Western PA. That's the only reason they gave Santorum a pass over his anti-gay remarks. That's also a big reason why a lot of Catholics justify being Dem - they are still pro-life and anti-gay.

6. I know quite a few Catholics |

who are neither. And Santorum probably will not be reelected.

5. Not everything is about votes... |
|
Sometimes, someone must stand up for injustices, regardless of an electoral outcome. I'm not going to be at this rally supporting any candidate, I'm there to support basic human rights.
And I'm not so sure that showing opposition will strenghten their cause.
