Toomey's backers want to punish repubs who don't toe the line
I keep hearing that the people funding Toomey's run are out to send a message to moderate Repubs that if they don't fall in line with what the party wants then they lose their seats.

They see Specter as a prime target due to his tenure in the Senate along with the rabid freeper base they tapped into in Central PA.

If Specter falls, other Dem-voting pubbies are next.

1. Maybe it's for the best, really. The moderates don't show the
really ugly face of today's Republicans and people can be deceived about how eveil they are. Maybe it's better if they show the world their intolerant, bigoted, theocratic, misogynist selves with no coverup.

As long as there are moderate Republicans out there, the voters can pretend that Republicans are really moderates and they can vote for them with a clear conscience.

If there were no moderates left, then we'd be facing the obvious 'Taliban' type theocrats and the thieves. People might decide to vote differently.

I was a Republican and usually voted Republican but during Reagan's first term I realized these people were extremists. So I called myself an "Independent" for years. Finally figured out that I'm a Democrat because today's Democrats are the party for fiscally responsible, socially liberal people.

" Finally figured out that I'm a Democrat because today's Democrats are the party for fiscally responsible, socially liberal people"

Depends on your def of social liberal. Clinton signed the defense of marriage act, many dems oppose gay marriage, then the party ddrove the vast vast vast majority of leftists out, to form the greens and into the democratic socialists of america. The party (as others he can attest) has lost its spine and keeps rushing center, yet blames nader voters (i'm not one) for the lost. Also the party is losing the african american vote in a major way. I agree with bill maher saying the dems are worse in some respects, Republicans truely believe thier bullshit about religion, and gay marriage, most dems don't but try to be so moderate they drive away more voters, in florida alone one fringe socialist pary got over 622 votes, which is irnoic when you think about the # of votes * "won" by.

5. socially liberal eh?
Not in Western PA. This area is quite Democratic because of economic reasons. Most Democrats here are still social conservatives ie. pro-life and against gay marriage.
