Anyone have a picture or address of Santorum's House in D.C. (VA really)?
I read that it is in Leesburg and assessed for about $750 k. No way is that the actual market value on a house in Leesburg that can house 8 people. That house is a million dollar house, but I want to be sure.

This issue is going to loom large for that asshole in '06. We need to put out a hit on him like the repugs did on Daschle.

1. I just checked the threads from a couple days ago,
about the tiny house the eight Rantorums share with a young couple in Penn Hills, PA. There are photos and other info about that house.

Here's one of them...

As your thread is on the PA forum, I am sure you saw the others. I am curious as to what that VA house looks like. I think I heard somewhere that they only paid in the $ 200K's for it. Quite nice appreciation!

3. Thanks, but I'm looking for info on the VA house.
I want to find out its real value.

This guy lives in a million dollar house in exclusive Horse Country in Virginia. Let's see if PA voters find that to be "in touch" with their day to day lives.

Let him explain that it is an average house that he bought for 200k that appreciated over the years. If he has to do that, we've scored a victory.

4. I just did a 411 search and found...
that K Santorum is the owner of record of 17650 Tobermory Pl
Leesburg, VA 20175-7052, and the Loudon County tax asessor's office has a pretty good site ... <http://inter1.loudoun.gov/cgi-bin/db2www.exe/webpdbs/re.d2w/INDEX> which gives all sorts of PUBLIC information when asked about that address.

7. That website will get you info on the house but no pic
Why was it in 2001 assessed at $117,200, then in 2002-2004 at $841,100, $733,800, and then $757,000 (interesting it dropped a bit in value)?

8. If I read it correctly
The LAND was worth 112k when owned by the developer in early 2001.

He then put a 550K house on it then sold it to Sanctimonious.

14. The LAND was assessed at $117,200
When you stick a MANSION on it, the assessed value goes UP.

Check again: The assessment INCREASED from $733,800 to $757,000 -- and going steadily upwards.

9. i'll be adding that link the the Santorum CYBERGATE SCANDAL links ....
list tomorrow.

it's funny that the listing for his house in VA shows
total bedrooms = 0

i'm sure this is just a N/A type situation but....

maybe he can fit all those people in that little house in PA?

too bad though, i would really like to know how many bedrooms he has in his REAL residence.

10. Anyone know how assessments are done there?
I just find it freaky that it dropped in assessed value. I know here in Allegheny County pols and VIPs who knew someone who knew someone for decades got property assessed lower than its true value. Wondering if same is true on Leesburg, VA.

11. We need to get someone to Leesburg to take pics.
I bet this is nice house, on a 4 acre estate. We need to get this stuff to the press in PA that has been following the story.

People in PA need to know that their sanctimonious senator is living on an estate in horse country in VA while bilking taxpayers of more than $100,000.

So, any contacts who would be willing to drive out there to take pics?

13. OMG, I was IN this neighborhood a month ago!
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 08:28 AM by Penndems
My mother lives in Leesburg, and she was telling me that Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs bought a house in that area, so we drove out to see it.

This is a VERY exclusive enclave near Waterford, Virginia (where Robert DuVall, the actor lives; so does former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann), at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Waterford is near Middleburg, which is even wealthier than Waterford is (Middleburg is "horse country"; Christopher Reeve had his accident there, when he was competing in the Virginia Gold Cup races). A limited number of these homes were built for a privileged clientele (read: The sort who don't want to be harassed by fans, reporters, etc.).

His house (actually, it's a MANSION) may be ASSESSED at $775K, but if Santorum put it on the market today, it would fetch well in excess of that amount (say, over $1,300,000). I don't know what month the last yearly real estate tax assessment was done in Loudoun County (August is when tax collection notices go out in Virginia--they're due in October), but I'm absolutely positive that his crib (and it's gotta be at least 10,000 square feet) is worth a hell of a lot more than $775,000. BTW, here's an interesting fact: The land that subdivision was built on used to be owned by Arthur Godfrey (it was his farm). (Arthur Godfrey was a radio/television personality in the 1940s/50s/60s. He had his own television show on CBS.)

What a bastard. He has a tiny, two-bedroom house in Pennsylvania and buys a mansion here in my state.

Y'all are getting bilked - BIG TIME. But, knowing Santorum's arrogance, he's probably banking on the fact that people in Pennsylvania don't know the lay of the land here (or anything about Virginia real estate).

Which is why you're fortunate to have me, LOL. ;)

6. He has a 7,000+ square foot house on almost 4 acres in Horse Country!
That is a million dollar house!
And he is making his constituents pick up the 6-figure tab for his kids education!
The man is out of touch!

Let's get 'em boys!

15. I'll bet it's a lot more than a million.
I have lots of family/family-by-marriage in that area, and I look at the real estate sections in that area all the time. It's a lot more than a million or even $1.3 million.

BTW ... talkin' about Middleburg ... Linda Tripp and her fiancee run a Christmas shop in Middleburg (and they serve as tour directors of trips to Christmas markets in Germany).

11/16/04 - Rooney Demands Refund For Santorum's Cyber School Costs

PA Dem Chair Says Santorum “Robbing Pennsylvania Students” for Personal Gain

HARRISBURG, PA: After days of news reports detailing how Senator Rick Santorum has taken $100,000 in Pennsylvania taxpayer dollars for cyber-schooling his children, Rep. T.J. Rooney, Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, today called on Santorum to refund Pennsylvania's children the taxpayer dollars he has taken from their education to put towards the education of his own children.

Santorum and his family live in Virginia.

Rooney said today, “Senator Santorum keeps going around trumpeting family values, trying to convince citizens that he is the voice for the Pennsylvania family. Now we learn that apparently Mr. Santorum believes that family values means taking from the children who need our help to pay huge bills for his own family, even though they don't live in Pennsylvania.”

According to the Associated Press, the Penn Hills School District in suburban Pittsburgh has spent $100,000 on the Internet-based education of Santorum's children since 2001-2002. Santorum purchased his two bedroom residence in the school district in 1997 for $87,800. His Leesburg, Virginia home was assessed at $757,000 this year.

“This is a classic case of the rich man's Robin Hood,” Rooney followed. “Mr. Santorum makes a generous salary and lives in a very expensive home in Virginia, but he didn't let that stop him from unfairly taking from the Pennsylvania students who need those school funds desperately.”
