http://pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/trib/newssummary/s_274300.htmlNotice that (in the interest of "fairness", I guess?) after suing Allen, and making his own news in the campaign, NOW old Scaife prints Tom Ceraso's comments regarding the vicious race run against Allen Kukovich:
Buying Elections. The people's trust should be earned, not bought. However, it's all too common for the candidate with the most campaign financing to win the election. One good example of this concept was the recent run for the state Senate between Bob Regola and Allen Kukovich (ending 27 years of dedicated state House and Senate representation). In one of the most negative campaigns in memory, Regola heavily outspent Kukovich, with the vast majority of the money coming from Philadelphia, Harrisburg and other areas outside the district.
Also LOOK OUT -- We need to get educated about voting on the black boxes, and quick... Westmoreland hasn't chosen its new voting system yet, but for democracy's sake we MUST demand a voter-verified paper ballot to be generated by whatever system they end up buying! VERY important to watch this carefully! Look what Ceraso has to say about DREs earlier in his article:
Currently, there are five different methods of casting a ballot in the state of Pa. -- state-of-the-art Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) systems, optical scan, mechanical lever machines (no longer manufactured), punch cards and the notorious paper ballots with the chads. Only the DREs prevent over-voting and unintentional under-voting, eliminate voter intent issues, expedite counting and allow for electronic transmission of results.
