Editorial: Civic duty / Santorum has the same obligations as other citizen
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04333/417912.stm

The more Rick Santorum talks about where he lives and where he doesn't, the more it suggests the senator has been spending too much time along the Beltway.

His latest eye-popping remark came Tuesday when the third most powerful member of the Republican caucus reported in Pittsburgh for jury duty. "If this is what people think is a good use of their United States senator's time ..." Mr. Santorum said in the City-County Building.

Answer: Yes.

Jury duty is a good thing for senators, governors, House members and all citizens, even if the senator and his family live 220 miles away in Leesburg, Va. It's understandable that he might see the commute into Allegheny County as an inconvenience, but he shouldn't blame the county. It was his choice to move to Virginia.

<snip>

Their names kept coming up for duty not because the county "is controlled by the other party," as the senator said on the radio, but because the couple repeatedly sought deferrals. Now that they've shown up, they'll be exempt from being called for a year -- just like people who live in Allegheny County.

3. Encouraging part was a couple of letters were from Repub voters
who said they wouldn't vote for Santorum again over the cyber school.

Hope they remember this. Wonder if they'll be mad enough to challenge Santorum with their favorite wingnut Toomey in '06 in the primary.

I'm glad we have a race in '06. Give me something to look forward to since it will be over 3 years to the Presidential Race.
