2. I hope that my Pennsylvania friends will vote for Joe Hoeffel
They need a changing of the guard in the worst way. I'd be interested in knowing just how many jobs Specter has helped create in PA. Not many, I would guess, judging from the employment situation there.

My husband and I lived in South Central PA for 2 1/2 years, but we're back in my home state of Virginia now.

Unfortunately, we have our own little right-winger we'll work to get out of office: George Allen.

4. Can you say Senator Hoeffel and President Kerry?
Disgusted right-wingers are a good thing. Remember Bush and the R machine didn't back their boy.

6. Right wingers are much more rational than the left wingers
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 11:38 AM by Prodemsouth
(Reading their post on this site should tell you that) The Nader run and the Kucinch avatars... Right wingers are more realistic in the sense of the political world than left wingers. Look at the results of the California recall that should tell you something, the right lined up behind Arnold because the leaders of the right wing Pat Robertson etc, came out for Arnold.. They don't care who they have to sit next to as long as they have a place at the table. Don't worry they will come home in November, this is a win win situation for the Repugs. The right got to kick Specter in the balls, it was close race. They are satisfied with that- trust me I was a right winger. Bush and others will bring them back, not because they are following orders or they are sheep, it is because they have a more realistic view of the political world, that (sadly) the left does not have.

3. the talking heads
have been saying that a "win" for specter is good for bush*

WIN Arlen Specter (R) 51%
Pat Toomey (R) 49%

consider this -- Toomey's campaign was all about how LIBERAL Specter is, in one ad Toomey said that Specter was more Liberal than Kerry

soooo - assume for a moment that Toomey's charges that Specter is as liberal or if not more liberal than Kerry

we know that bush* is conservative, so how is it that a "liberal Specter" beat out a "conservative Toomey"?

Did Specter win because he had bush*'s endorsement?

or did he win because people have had enough of the conservative agenda?

or did he win because people would rather stick with the conservative they know rather than go with a conservative they don't know?

again assuming that Specter is as liberal as Kerry -- isn't Specter's win more of "endorsement" for Kerry rather than bush*?

5. Hard to tell
But one thing is for certain, he enjoyed massive support in Bucks County and strong support in Montgomery County which carried the day for him.

Will those same suburban Philadelphians vote similarly in the Fall? The answer to that question will go a long way to determining whether PA is a red (guh) or (hopefully) blue state.

7. well...
maybe the youth and the left can make a surprise political assault on the rich suburbs this general election.

Many of us aren't registered yet. But we will be, because so many of us are, frankly, disgusted with our government and our leaders. The Powers-That-Be better watch out...

8. Hoeffel will get his ass kicked.
Sorry, but I am not into bullshitting things. Hoeffel is going to lose to Spec by more than Toomey did.

Spec gets a ton of cross over votes. The unions love him in general, especially steel mill workers. Spec spoke at their DC rally a few years ago.

Many women like him too. And if the majority of voters voted for Santorum, there is no such thing as too conservative for PA.

As another poster said, the right tends to unite better than the left behind a candidate...I think they will take their losses with Specter and vote for him. Also, Specter may have sold his soul in promises to Bush to get a helping hand in this election...he owes Bush his seat if that is the case.
